Hi all, very much hoping the brains here can figure this out for me…

Long story short, I cannot get new Dill 5003 sensors to work on my 2012 Ram 1500 ST (no EVIC).

Long story long, this started with a tire change at Costco in January. No low tire light prior to new tires. Costco puts on new tires, I then had the 60 seconds flashing, then solid low tire light on startup. Took it back, they said I needed new sensors. I didn’t argue, they were original, so 14 years old, so I said yes. They proceeded to put in Dill 5001s. They used an ATEQ VT56 and programmed them as ‘2012 Ram 1500’. They could not, however, upload anything to the OBD port. When they did, it read ‘OVD fail’. Did the manual drive, the light did not budge. Took it back, they quickly released air from all 4 tires, then back up to 40psi, then let the truck sit for 15 minutes, then I drove for 20 mins over 25mph. No change.

Took it back, swapped out the Dill 5001 for Dill 5003. Using their ATEQ VT56, they programmed them as ‘2012 ram 1500’. In the ATEQ, I saw there was no differentiation between high-line and low-line. Again, the OBD fail popped up when connecting to the port. Did the drive relearn, no dice.

I then read that the OBD fail was happening because there is nothing to write to TPMSwise through the port, that all the info is save in the Wireless Control Module. I then read the only way to clear the old sensors out of the WCM was to disconnect the battery for 15 minutes. So I went back, did the battery DC, then had them reprogram all sensors on the truck, verify them, then I did the drive relearn. No dice.

Then I read, because my truck was low-line (WCM controlled) no EVIC, the ATEQ VT56 only programs high-line for 2012, so I need to have them program as 2010 or 2009 ram 1500. I had them program as “2009 ram 1500 433mhz” because I saw that selection in the ATEQ. I then let the truck sit off for 30 minutes to clear the low tire light out of the gauge cluster (no EVIC means I can’t use a scanner to clear it because there’s no tire info on the computer). I did the drive relearn annnnd… no dice.

Now AI is telling me to try 2012 dodge grand caravan programming, because it’s the same year and there is no high-line for the caravan, only low line. I haven’t done this yet.

Thank you for reading this far and I sincerely hope you have some ideas for me.

Give him.your vin, ask for new mopar sensors. He will sell them to you.

On TPMS sensors for a 2012 model year, your best bet is OEM. I fought this battle for over a year with aftermarket sensors and finally just replaced them with OEM, problem solved .

No more issues.

My opinion

If you had AlfaOBD, you could go in the program and make changes manually, IF the sensors are programmed correctly by the TPMS tool.

Mine was going nuts because the sensor in the full size spare died. Evic showed all pressures perfect, but couldn't reset. The EVIC doesn't show a 5th sensor, but the 5th one will bork everything up with no indications for the 5th one. Programmed a new sensor with TPMS tool and replaced the sensor. Had to go in with AlfaOBD and reset the RF hub and all was good after that.

I have the Autel MaxiTPMS TS501 Pro programmer and installed an Autel 2 in 1 M.A.X.I. sensor (had to modify the word because this sites nany algorithm censored the name of a TPMS sensor. Ridiculous)

I don't have AlfaOBD, I've been meaning to pick up a new scanner, is that a good one? With the whole 'OBD fail' issue with the ATEQ scanner, it leads me to believe there's no write access to the computer for the TPMS, that it's fully handled by the WCM. This whole no EVIC for my truck really made it an odd duck. I would love to just plug in and be able to reset something, but the low tire light doesn't throw any codes.

Yes, it is a great little program (around $55). I use it with an OBDLink MX+ OBD2 dongle (around ($120) and Windows 11. Hasn't skipped a beat.

You may need to go into the RFHub with AlfaOBD and change from TPMS 4 sensors to 5 sensors and back again tp get it to change it's mind.
