Hi group, the TPMS light came on, on my 2012 1500, I checked the sensors with my sensor tester and I got no reading from the driver front wheel. Others read fine. My question is, can I just replace the sensor that is bad with one and drive around a little to get it work, or does a tire shop need to program them? The sensors I am looking at are from Amazon, but are a direct replacement for the OEM ones, and are supposed to be "preprogrammed". I have the basic cluster that doesn't display individual tires air pressures.

Order a programmed one from Rock Auto. Many have had issues with the Amazon TPMS. Also, from other posts, Walmart will replace the sensor for $10. I would order 4 sensors, replace the bad one. The others won't be far behind so do the other 3 when you next swap tires.

For pre-programmed, I've had good luck with OEM sensors and Schrader sensors (Mopar OEM manufacturer). A preprogrammed Schrader from Rock auto is the best option for someone who doesn't have sensor programmers.

For programmable, I use Schrader EZ Sensor, Launch and ThinkTPMS. They all work well too. But, each requires a programmer to make it work,. The ATEQ programmer that Discount Tire and Les Schwab use, can program these.

similar question...I recently had new tires put on my truck and am coming due to rotate them. Do I have to do anything specail with the sensors? My truck displays each individual tire pressure.

No, the PU will re-learn the new sensor positions just by driving it. Suggest that before you rotate the tires, measure the tread depth on all 4. If the tread is within 2/32 don't bother rotating. My 2500 wears the front and back tires almost exactly the same. Thus, I don't move them.

My 2025 recognized the sensors from wheel to wheel, location to location. Nothing is to be done.

Hope yours isn't like mine. Got low pressure one super cold morning. They all read correctly and set at proper pressure. Flattened each one then pumped up to 39 and drove it like it says, then dropped to 35 psi and system still has not reset the idiot light. Everything good, no warnings and still have the light.

I am at a loss

You may have to inflate over 39. I had a couple of sensors that wouldn't resolve till over 45.

I'm not certain the range of error built into the sensor but this fixed mine. Took about 20 minutes of driving

Then I dropped it down to the correct pressure

What does your door sticker say for tire pressure. You only need to go a couple of pounds over that to reset. Drive it till the light clears, then drop the pressure to where you want it. TPMS warning should not light off til you are 20% under door sticker pressure. So 36 on door, warning shows at 29. If it won't reset try clearing the code with an OBD tool and check that all of your sensors are in fact good. A bad sensor will set the light too and cold weather shows sensors with weak batteries sooner than warm weather.

Door says 35 cold and the EVIC (and manual) says to pump to 39 to reset. No Joy. Been driving around for a couple of weeks with 39+ in tires.
One good thing, my mileage has gone up by 2 1/2-3 MPG w/ 39 PSI instead of 35.

Again, the sensors all showed correct applied air pressure almost instantly (after 150 yards moving) and cleared the red flag on the low tire.

Have you used an OBD code reader to clear the warning light. Have you tried disconnecting your battery for a couple of hours, which should clear the light too.

Yes, both. Cleared the light with the MX+ and it keeps coming back.

Every time I start the truck, it goes through a 30 to 60 second test then shows the light. That is with the proper tire pressure and with the EVIC showing 35 PSI on each tire and no red indicators.

Just read the additional info you posted. Light is going out after battery or obd clear but then returns. You are going to need to dig deeper as it is not just tire pressure that will trip that light.

What size tires are yours?

I just have tge 265/70R17, and my door says 40psi.

I haven't read anything definitive of what will trip the light on the series (16, 17) DS truck I have, other than the pressure / bad TPMS wheel module. There a lot of "what if's", but none of them are relevant in my case. The 16-17 differ from the 15 and down / 18 and up trucks in some minor ways.

Articles say the TPMS receiver or ECM problems. If it is a TPMS receiver (I thought the '16 used the RF hub as the receiver), then that part has been discontinued on the Mopar parts store with no replacement listed. I also believe they confused the ECM for the BCM.

A ton of other articles also mention the TCM reset button, but those authors that think they are smarter than everyone else haven't a clue because there is no reset button on our Rams.

I am going to, as a last ditch try, go into the BCM with AlfaOBD and reset the RF hub, then if that doesn't work, try to manually change some pressure settings from MAX 39 to MAX 35 and see if that does it.

In the backup AlfaOBD printout for VehConfig 2:

UPDATE... I got a cheap set of TPM Sensors from Amazon and replaced the bad one myself. Drove probably 2 miles and the light went out. Going to replace the rest next weekend, as I'll bet the rest aren't too far from going dead soon.

Glad the new sensor did the trick. Hope your Amazon sensors last better than most of them do, but at least it solved the problem for now. Thanks for updating the thread.

Wally World? $10 is a bargain deal. I am all for DEALS :) I am not sure I could bring myself to have anything done on my truck at Wally World. I wont pay dealer prices either. Discount Tire at $70 recently for the sensor and install with 6 year warranty. Just saying.
