Hey guys. I had a couple of tire pressure sensor questions.

1. If I change to an aftermarket rim, my factory TPMS should swap over to the new rims without issue?

2. If I change rims and do not swap TPMS - will it set a code or warning light?

3. Any suggestions on a good street tire? I wanted the Bridgestone KDW's but they don't make them anymore. I like the Nitto 420's too. Any other worth considering?

Thanks.

if you don't put sensors in the new wheels it will beep when you first start then you will just have the tpms warning light on in the dash.

Oem sensors do not work in all aftermarket wheels but do work in a lot of them

I ordered my new rims/tires from Tirerack and had them install new TPS before mounting and balancing. Added around $160. to the price. Worked fine when I installed them and old rims were easier to sell w/ sensors.

I ordered new Mopar sensors for mine and gave them to discount tire, no issues whatsoever and as stated made selling old ones easier. Factory sensors were approx. $20ea. on amazon

If you have them swapped over, you will have to buy a rebuild kit (new TPMS valve stems are not reusable only the internal sensor) for each sensor which normally runs about $7ea depends on shop, plus they may charge for labor of breaking bead, reseat tire with new valve stems etc.

Another thing to consider is the battery life in the sensor. If you have an older truck with original sensors might be a good idea to replace anyway.

By the time the tires are worn out, the TPMS sensors may be nearing the end of their useful service life — or they may not have enough remaining battery life to last another set of tires.

The lithium ion batteries inside TPMS sensors may last anywhere from five to 10 years. Five to six years is a more typical lifespan for older TPMS sensors. TPMS sensors don’t broadcast a continuous signal but only broadcast when the vehicle is in motion. Even then, the signal is intermittent to conserve battery life.

On most applications, the battery is molded into the TPMS sensor assembly so it cannot be replaced separately. Consequently, if the battery is run down or dead, the entire TPMS sensor has to be replaced
