I have a 2017 1500 with a dealer installed trailer brake controller. When I plus my trailer in to the truck and select trailer tow, it says No trailer attached.

Would this be the truck or the trailer problem?

Either and/or bad plug from trailer or bad adapter, depending what U R doing. Need more info: Is it a straight bumper pull, plug into 4 pin, or is it a bigger trailer with double wheels and electric brakes and such and 7 pin plug in, and whether or not adapter used..

ADDED: On MY 19, I have to have truck off, doors opened/closed ref shut down system, before I plug into 7 pin and I am using an adapter. I also found my "4-6" pin adapter was getting worn, and I had to replace. If I do not shut down the truck, it has a bad habit of blowing 20 amp cartridge fuse for tail lights.

JUST A THOUGHT: Check PW from dealer. They may have installed the control and module but NOT flashed the BCM. Has it worked before?

It is a double axle trailer with a 7 pin plug-in. It worked fine for 4 years. The breakway cable was pulled out accidently, then plugged back in. Would that effect the system?

@StanH when was the last time the trailer brakes were inspected? Might be a good time check all the wiring and magnets. There have been a few people posting about a similar issue of the brake controller not "seeing" the trailer brakes only to find problems with the wiring and/or brakes.
If the break-away switch is may have failed causing the problem. Check the switch and associated battery.

Thanks. I am going to start with the breakaway switch, then go from there.

Did you find out what it was? My 2015 3500 is now doing the same thing
