Transfer Case noise in Shifter

Hi; I have a 2007 Ram 2500 with approx 50,000 miles. I have a grinding noise (at speed from 20 miles and above) at the transfer case shifter, if I hold the shifter with my hand the noise goes away but as soon as I let it go the noise comes back again, It is a vibrating type noise and the level of noise is just annoying if I do not have the music on.

any suggestions what the cause might be.

does it happen in all transfer case ranges or just in 2wd or what?
