Looking for some help with my 2004 slt 1500 4x4. Auto tranny. I have the manual 4lo, 4hi not he dash switch. I am in east tx and dont really ever use my 4x4. In fact I have only used it twice since I got the truck. We got snow and ice so I took the truck out yesterday in 4lo at about 5mph till I got out on the road and then ran it in 4hi no faster than 30mph. No issues. Today i put it back in 2wd and it took me an hour to get it to go into it. The transfer case shifter switches easy, it does not feel loose or hard to change. The 4x4 light go's on and off like it should. It will cycle through hi/lo/n 2wd fine. In 2wd tho my front wheels where still in 4x4 even with the light off. Finally after an hour of going through all the gears of the transfer case, going in reverse 30 feet, and forward 30 feet, it finally went into 2wd.
Where should I be looking to fix this issue. I already looked at the linkage for the transfer case and the grommets looked good. Everything online said that it was the transfer case motor, but I have the manual not the dash switch.
This is my first 4x4 and first dodge so I'm still learning lol Thanks for the help in advance

If it were me I would start by disconnecting the transfer case shift linkage and operating the transfer case shift lever by hand. Have someone sit in the truck to move the shifter lever so you can verify that it matches each detent on the transfer case.

IIRC, this should be a manual shift NV241 transfer case in the 2004 DR trucks. You also have a Front Axle Disconnect on the right front axle. Make sure the vacuum line to the axle disconnect is in good shape and that you have good vacuum to the port.
