Still a ZF transmission is solid and very reliable from what I hear.

i remember back in the late 80s to mid 2000s . ford was using zf 5 and 6spd manuals. neither trans was worth a crap but the 5spd was particularly a pile of junk. now i think about it, the whole truck was a pile of **** really. ive never been around the zf automatic but i would hope things have improved with the passage of time and technology

All about cost. I remember the Aisin used to be an option that obviously costed more and has the PTO function the 68RFE doesn't have. Probably saves them money still being able to put there in house transmission into the 2500 diesel instead of putting the Aisin into everything which is Japanese manufactured. The Aisin only is mated to the HO cummins not the regular cummins. But I agree its stupid keep one beast of a transmission for all of the diesels especially one that durable.
I’m surprised Ram didn’t put the Aisin in all diesels too. I would think putting An Aisin badge on the truck along with Cummins would do well just like Chevy puts Allison somewhere on their trucks. Another 1500 dollars to the price tag wouldn’t scare anyone way because they are already crazy expensive.
