I live in a county that does not have emissions, so thought about striping the truck of those things. Maybe with all the nonsense removed and a tune, the PW is hiding some horses?? Growing up in Houston then moving to Denver I never was able to consider this before.
This is very common with the diesel owners in my area.

Help me out.
Pros:
More hp and torque
Better exhaust
No unnecessary engine light
Better MPG

Cons:
May forfeit warranty
Hard to sale truck in the future

Since you're in Texas, here's the Federal laws regarding the tampering or removal of emission equipment regardless of not having emissions in your county. You won't be able to resale it ever legally in Texas without the emissions installed, but if you ever tried to sale it without the emissions you might just have to pay up to a $25,000 fine for tampering and removal, plus you still will have to reinstall the emission equipment. I don't have emissions in my county either.

Not saying it's right and you'll get your ass busted if you get caught but I used to run straight pipe from my turbo back on my old rice burner Evo X. I had all the sections flanged so I could go back to stock easily when needed

You are totally right with the^^^post. I just find it funny, Marijuana is still illegal per federal law. Still a schedule 1 so even colleges can’t get funding to do trials to see what the immediate and or long term effects are. But no push back on federal emissions standards.

I had reservations that you are correct it could run like junk. If I do a cat delete and compensate the back pressure. I could then increase the the air flow though the throttlebody ....

They had 275 stock. I had alot done all at once but I had a slightly larger turbo and all the supporting goodies. I do miss that car she put down 386 to the wheels, felt like a damn rocketship. Turbocharged engines are a different animal than NA motors, the least back pressure the better.

Yeah I had a Mazda speed6 to play with the awd turbo guys back in 06. Different animal for sure.

Dad has a cat delete on challenger. Among some other additions. Basically raw power now. Had to replace ecu to tune it. Warranty gone as far as engine instantly.
Dyno has 680 on the ground.
Tuner spoofs emissions. They dont test tail pipe in texas.
Kept all parts if ever wanted to sell to dealer, but can sell privately.


Im not ready to do that on my truck ... lot of potential power still untapped if you have the $ and warranty is irrelevant.

I know guys with ctsv's who did it here with emissions in place and it's a pain in the ass. I am talking headers no cats just mufflers and they are insane. They wanted power with E85 and E85 can create so much heat that it could destroy your cats. Unless you know people they never would pass emissions if you catch my drift and even then it's gotten pretty serious messing with that crap and become more of a headache then it's worth. I know when I had my hellcat you had to take out the stock ecu put the tunning company's in and then flash the tune on there. If you tune your stock ecu and have any warranty issues that they can blame on your mods the dealer can void your warranty I have seen it happen. Guys were voiding warranties on hellcats for changing the supercharger pulleys out for more boost. But they also have to prove the mod caused the failure " Magnuson Moss Warranty Act ". It's up to you but I dont think it's worth it going headers back especially with the sound of eco mode and yes I know you can hit manual + 6 to bypass it but still. I run no muffler or resonator cats only and it's stupid loud. Sounds good low to mid but full throttle full blown redneck. If you want power wait till your warranty is over change the lifters and cam so your mds is deleted then put on a supercharger if there is a kit. Basically with any mods on the new stuff go all in with deep pockets or dont bother. Also with these diesels you see doing this stuff trust me they are getting hammered to. I would love to delete my wife's 6.7's DEF system on her ford but man are they cracking down on the owners and tuners. I personally think its BS but it's the times we now live in. Do what I am going to do buy an old school muscle car or truck and live the historic tag and CARBURETED life and enjoy all the mods.

I did not know the ECU would have to be replaced. Thank for sharing a success story. If your Dad had the 5.7l he started with 375 hp so ~100hp increase WOW

A 50s PW is on my radar. My truck is in the shop and my loaner is a Challenger so all these thought sparked the idea of this thread
