I'm at 125,000 on my 2018 Ram crewcab work truck 4X2 with the Pentastar Six, and this is the first serious wear issue that I'd like to fix or at least stabilize. I have almost zero experience with upholstery stuff. My only other experience was having the back seat of my 1964 Volvo 122S four-door redone nearly 50 years ago. This is the driver's side door cushion. I only weight about 160 and have tried to be gentle getting in and out.

There's probably an upholstery shop near you that you never knew existed. They can fix this stuff all day long (its on the stitch so may be relatively cheap too)!

I wouldn't recommend racing seats if you plan to drive even moderate distances often. They're great for spirited driving, and of course, track days. Proper racing seats are not made for comfort. My son had a set of them in his '87 MR2 (I forget the seat brand) and they were great for, well, racing. But were not very comfortable for long rides because you can't really change positions like you can with normal seats. To be fair he also had a 5 point harness lol. Even with a normal shoulder/lap belt, there's often no lumbar adjustment, fixed tilt and height positions. Looks like your Sparco's at least have a tilt and height adjustments.

Thanks fellas. I'm 73, with four back surgeries, so I will probably pass on the racing seat. I'll check with a local upholsterer. I don't mind a somewhat unsightly repair. Just don't want it to keep getting worse. Will consider a seat cover.

What is the budget for this remedy?

You could have Katzkin leather installed or a more budget friendly solution is seat covers from Amazon or elsewhere.

I like the Upholstery repair idea and then a seat cover, if it's too painful to look at.

Katzskin can be installed /supplied,on all your seats in Canada for2grand.I am happy with mine(2 years later ),they look great and its reasonable for leather.Look them up on the internet.High quality and in a variety of colours with the Ram monogram stitched in. BMW SELLS their leather seat covers for 6000. (That price is much higher now as I was quoted in 2006)or more. However,I remember they told me they use cow hydes from Virgin Belgium cows and that cost alot more because those cows are hand fed only the finest gourmet locally grown cow food and bathed daily.

It is really sad that after over a hundred years of making automobile seats that somehow the manufacturers lost their way. The seat problem seem to be a common issue on ALL manufacturers over the past several years!

I used the seat shop as well. Great fit, and those video made it a pretty easy DIY

https://www.theseatshop.com/

I only did the bottom seat cushion (I replaced the stock with their durafoam it’s pretty firm but comfortable) the wrinkles have relaxed out this was right after install. The color difference is from 10 years in the New Mexico sun.

I find the LEATHER (I’ve had three)on these high end trucks seems thin and cheap.
I always use seat covers so why do I ****** bother buying leather options!

I've been pleasantly surprised by the factory leather seats, so far. My '14 Laramie just hit 11 years as it was first sold in March 2015. I'm just under 125,000 miles, with years of short trips and in-and-out use. Driver's seat is just showing some mild wrinkles and has held up well. If it matters I am 6'2" and 270lbs on a good day, belt and pockets full of "stuff", boots and jeans, etc.
I'm 17lbs heavier leaving the house than simply leaving the bed.

Now if only the exhaust manifolds were made as well as the leather seats.

The leather seats in our 2020 Limited are holding up great after six years. They still feel as soft and supple as the day we brought it home. Granted there's less than 40k miles on the truck so it's not heavily used. And other than the last year it's been garaged much of that time.

I put these in my 2018 when I bought it 2022. This was right after installation.

They look as good today, and are more comfortable than the original seat. Plus, they clean up very easy.
