So I recently went on a small little road trip about 200 miles round trip to get a camper shell for my truck. When I got home and started driving around town there is a strange rubbing sound coming form the front of the truck and I can feel it in the performance of the truck as well. It happens very random when it does it. I don't know if the grease is low in the CV boot or the brakes are acting up. Any ideas on what is happening

Possible u-joint. Does it do when turning?

no, only when im driving forward, but it does whine/squeal when i turn though, it has always done that since i got it, the rubbing sound is a new sound and you can feel it in the floor board when it does make the rubbing sound.

Try this...Lift one side of axle at a time with a jack and secure axle.

Grab tire at 12 and 6 o'clock (or top and bottom) and try to wiggle back and forth. Let us know what happens. BTW, if it wiggles, your hub bearings are shot.

Inspect u joints for rust stains (dried cups) or try to move with pry bar. Any play is bad. U-joints usually pop or squeak/squeal, so they are already toast.

While tire is in the air place pry bar under it and see how much spindle moves up and down on ball joints. You're allowed 1/8 inch play. But any more than that or side to side movement means shot ball joints.

Also, make sure your brakes aren't sticking or worn against the rotors.

Probably a good idea to replace the u-joints and maybe the ball joints while the bearings are out. Or...you'll get good at removing the hubs. :birgits_tiredcoffee

I replaced a hub assembly about a month ago. Get lots of PB Blaster. And I would soak the crap out of it all night. I had to beat the hell out of the old hub with a small sledge hammer to get the damn thing out.
