I use Top Tier 89 or 93 if I'm at Costco. I don't think there is anything to 'feel' immediately between 87 and 89. The feel will come in time as the engine gets older. It could help keep the noise away.

I cant even hit 17mpg using 89 octane ethanol (corn) gas, 87 octane is even worse. I use strictly 90 octane NON ethanol gas, and getting 22mph average.
Try to burn NON ethanol gas when you can, it dosen`t attract moisture like ethanol gas does. Not to mention, loss of power with ethanol gas.

I tried 87 for a week then switched to 89. Picked up about 2MPG.

Hemi is a 10.0:1 compression engine, you need to run something better than regular 87.

The engine CAN run 87, the computer will just pull timing to prevent knock, and you'll lose both power and economy.

You bought the engine for the power, right? So run the correct fuel.

Top tier is almost as important as the octane. I get better mileage running Shell anything than I do off brand 89. I just wish it wasn't so much more expensive than the off brand stations.

Well, since you have a tune for 87, why indeed? I can feel a difference in throttle from 87 to 89, & many report a difference in mpg. I’ll gladly run the recommended octane since it’s only a few more dollars per tank.

Been running great on 87 since I bought the truck in November. 20 mpg average over 5k miles. 22.5 mpg each way on a 200 mile trip to Hampton VA from Danville in May. Not worth 30 cents more per gallon to see if it picks up a mile or so per gallon. (No towing).

The difference in performance is noticed when RPM’s are high. The higher the octane the lower the ignition point which equates to more performance at higher RPM’s.

I have a question. Are there more cleaning detergents in higher octane fuel?

Here at a gas station chain we have the option of what they call clear gas. It is 88 octane, with no ethanol, or, additives. I have been running that and have been happy with the way the truck runs.

Given Provo's elevation that 88 octane would be better than running premium at sea level. Truck should love it!

Thought i would pass this on good video, explaining the difference in octane. This guy has great videos explaining all kinds of car related technology. About 4 percent difference. Thats a decent amount. I certainly don't want to be giving that away, (aka retarding my timing).
