What is this for

Doing some detail cleaning on my truck this week and found this opening below the RAM insert on the dash. Here are the photos. Looks like there should be a cover on there or a place where a light should be. My truck is a 2500 ST

i wonder if that is something for the center console

I found that on my truck a while back and asked the dealer and they didn't know. We went and looked at other trucks and it was the same. It really does seem like there should be a cover of some sort. The hole is most likely used when there is a console.

I am curious if it is open on other trucks. It could be the place where the drop down cup holders lock into, and since mine is an ST with the floor console for the shifter it is just left open. I think I am going to use it to run wires to some lighting so that you can see the cup holders at night, just not sure how I will wire it. Thinking about adding the aux light switch panel.

i know that you can put the mopar aux switches there. not sure if its a factory option. but you can remove the ram part and put the switches

Yeah, that is what I am thinking of doing. It is just an expensive little part for what it does.

i can now tell you that hole has nothing to do with the center console. I have the center console and i checked during my lunch break and my truck has that hole there uncovered also. So maybe it is something for the fold down cup holders.

So now maybe someone with the drop down cup holders could chime in. It just really out of place and seems unfinished.

A thought one of my dealer guys had was that it was an inspection hole? That they didn't make a cover for??? I don't know. I was irritated when I first found it thinking they didn't put my truck together all the way. Is there any Mopar accessory that it might be for?

I believe it is where the switches for heated seats go on the models with heated leather.

Not sure what its actually for, but if its the hole I'm thinking of, I used it to run a iPod cable from the glove box to there behind dash so no cords are shown

It is the hole beneath the ram insert that photo is for location reference.

Its for the latch on the fold fown cupholders.

Nope, have a response on CF fron a guy with drop down cup holder and he has the hole as well and it doesn't line up with the latch.

I have the console and the heated seats, I had to feel for it but it is there, weird

Ill double check but im sure I felt the metal bar inside for the cupholder latch to grab onto
