Application dictates you decision. If you're going to be pulling a lot of weight and driving through hills I'd lean towards the 3500. Are these both gassers?
yes both are gassers. I am going to go with the 3500 with the 6.4 and 4.10 rear axle. 106k miles. It will be a work pickup but promise it won’t be abused. I plan to do a transmission fluid and filter change and replace thermal valve with a mishimoto with a thermostat in it. It gets to -20F here and the record low is just over -30F. I feel the mishimoto will at a minimum allow better flow and open sooner than the stock assembly. In addition, the mishimoto thermostat is removable.

I am going back to a gasser after 30 years. I loved the 2018 3500 CTD I sold recently except for DEF and the 68RFE. It had the puck system which is great. Whether I go 2500 or 3500, I will add airbags which I have on my 1998 12V 2500. These roads and 3200# pin weight cause bone jarring rides with either leafs or springs.

3500 for sure, as long as the salt hasn't taken a toll on the underside. If there was a leafspring retrofit for my coilspring 2500, I would do it in a heartbeat.
