If you go with -12 and get Bushwacker Pocket flares you'll cover the entire tire with them. I have them with -24mm offset with 35x12.5r20 tires and get very minimum dirt on my door or the rear of the truck.

I would assume it's based on the wheel setup too. Seen a guy running a 305/45R22 on an 22x11 with a -24 offset on stock suspension with no trimming or rubbing. Actually looks pretty badass...
