Nothing is going to go wrong. It's just a little bit bigger tire so your speedometer will be incorrect and so will your odometer. You will need a scan tool to correct the pinion factor. A Chrysler-Dodge-Jeep-RAM dealer or a local independent shop can correct the pinion factor. Since the 265/70/16 was not an option in 1998 you will have to correct the pinion factor by using the tires Revolutions Per Mile. The 265/70/16 is normally 659 revolutions per mile.

Your truck could have rolled off of the assembly line with a 225/75/16 or a 245/75/16.

If you had the 225/75/16, which is 29.28" tall, the 265/70/16 will be 1.32" taller.

If you had the 245/75/16, which is 30.46" tall, the 265/70/16 will be .14" taller.

Thank you very much for providing a sigh of relief on this rainy dreary Wednesday morning in Florida!

First, welcome to the forum.

In the future, please try to remember that without the series and if it's 2 or 4 wheel drive it's hard or impossible to give a correct answer to many questions. And since you didn't list the size tire you removed, it's had to make an accurate comparison.

Point is, a 2wd 1500 series with 16" rims should have had 225/75R16 or 245/75R16 tires, and the 4wd 1500 series models came with 225/75R16, 245/75R16, or 265/75R16 as spec'ed by order sheet. So the tires you have installed may be anywhere from an inch or so taller to slightly shorter than your OEM tires. Shouldn't be enough of a height difference to make a fitment issue.

Also, the only reason to do anything calibration wise is if you want to correct the speedo - the ECM could care less about tire diameter changes - that is unless you radically change the diameter enough for the TPS and MAP sensor values get out of spec. If you have 4 wheel ABS and install different diameter front and rear tires it will throw an ABS code. And if you change axle ratios the computer will see an issue with the wrong values from the VSS and the rear ABS readings and toss a code. It's usually easier and cheaper just to remember the speedo may be a little off.
