"Those aren't supposed to come off."
"Yeah."

I carry 3 tow straps in my truck. I have collected them over the years from my prior off road Blazer so why not keep them in my 2500. Also there is a chance if they need to be used I will or the stuck person will be more than 30' into the "****". Can never have too much strap. I also have several large shackles. As someone else mentioned chains and cables can whip back but is still feel more safe putting a blanket ormother large item over the straps just in case something breaks. What of a tow hook breaks or part of someone's truck under heavy load. I don't want that coming at anyone vehicle, especially mine. If no blanket or similar tie a piece of rope to the middle of the strap with a 3' log tied to it dragging on the ground. Really anything to deaden the energy of a strap breaking will help the whip of a broken strap.

There are certain "straps" made for a running start to yank someone out of a situation. I mostly see them with guys stuck in deep sand. Wouldn't use any old strap for that though. Great video posted earlier.

So these were basically the only two i saw at home depot today. I may just get two of the previously mentioned straps in this thread

The bottom one is not a tow strap. It is a tie down strap. It says 10k pounds but I don't know if I would trust it. I have one like the top pic and I pulled an Explorer out of deep snow with it.

i have arb snatch straps for my truck but i also have cheapo homedepot tow ropes with hooks on them for pull out light weight vehicles and on my atv. Basically so i can be lazy and not deal with d rings.

But for pulling out big boys i get a nice running start with the snatch straps

I'll probably get the strap mentioned in the OP as well as the arb snatch strap

Not sure if anybodys said it, but do not tie off to a tow ball.

You can tie off to the ball mount without the ball in it. You can get a piece of square tubing to go in the receiver with a d ring. You can get a hook or an eye from tractor supply to fit your receiver.

A tow ball is brittle and will enter your rear window at 60 MPH.

Any pics? I want to make sure i do it the right way if i have to do it. I can take the ball out and tie the strap into that and/or just go through the receiver without the hitch in the receiver?

most high quality tow/ snatch straps loops will fit inside your receiver and you can lock it in with the pin.i use lifting straps i get free from the hiab trucks because they expire after a few years, and they can't use them, and they're great for anchoring your truck to a tree or stump while i'm winching someone out.they have zero stretch, but i warn guys ahead of time and they just want to be unstuck,so they never say no.it's so much easier pulling than setting up the winch, snatch blocks etc.as someone else stated,NEVER loop it around the ball.

So you would just put the pin through the loop.. The pin will hold up fine?

yes just think, if your towing something #15000 and that pin is the only thing holding it in there, and it does just fine

Yeah if you put one of those big d ring on there or a big hook that pin is still holding it. I haven't had any issues and I have had it 4lo rocking a 10 year old crape myrtle and that thing had some serious roots I broke the metal hook on a 2 in strap my 30 footer wouldn't reach by it's self. And that pin went no where

I have a lock and a non locking thing i can put on it but regardless if it's locked or not, if it gets bent where you hook the strap up on the pin, you wont be getting it out of the receiver

Same thing can be said about the ball everyone is saying not to use......

Never seen or heard about a ball breaking... I have a 2 5/16 pintle combo that strap goes on and close the pintle... Or I've done the pin in the hitch as well...
