Alright thanks. So two straps and two d-rings should do it.

Same thing can be said about the ball everyone is saying not to use......

Never seen or heard about a ball breaking... I have a 2 5/16 pintle combo that strap goes on and close the pintle... Or I've done the pin in the hitch as well...

i've seen it happen.guy took a run and the ball snapped off. we heard it smash into something waay in the bush.scared the **** out of everyone standing around.if the truck wasn't buried to the axles in a mud pit it probably would have gone straight through the cab.

Shackles are not expensive. I'd get three. Just in case, you'd have one for each vehicle and one to connect the two straps together if needed. If you use the schackle to connect two straps together make sure to put some blankets or other weight about 10' on either side of center where the straps are connected.

you don't need a shackle to connect 2 tow straps.that's putting a hell of alot of force on the d ring. you're better off looping them together.edit:use your tire iron as a dog bone.

Please make sure you get the screw in type Anchor Pin Shackle and not the type that uses a cotter pin to secure the shackle pin

Ever see the video of the guy who got killed by using the wrong strap. Those things can pack some force when they come flying at you.

If people would stop standing in the kill zone it wouldn't happen period... You shouldn't have to take a 20 ft run to pull Someone out.

Menards has a 3x30 strap for 15 bucks right now... 30,000lb break strength.... I pick one up to go with the rest of my straps....,

The first one almost looks like it came off what he had it hooked on, the way it flipped up before snapping back...
That stuff can happen with any kind of strap.

Anyone got the story or the video of this guy getting hit by a strap and dieing.... Maybe it would give some insight on how not to do something...

Hopefully this helps. Get a 7/8" or larger and it should take care of all your needs.

Galvanized Screw Pin Anchor Shackles

Going to revive this thread...

Looking at the specs on these rings, it looks like I can only get a 7/16 shackle because the pin diameter is .5" and I measured the pin hole diameter on my tow set up and it was .5" as well. Am I wrong or missing something?

Bump.. Looking to grab one this week since winter is upon us. Can anyone confirm it will fit the pin hole?

Or I can just use the pin I normally use to tow..

just use a trailer pin and the tow strap loop,if i'm interpreting what you're asking correctly.if i am,you can also get a receiver mounted shackle, like a trailer ball, only a shackle instead of the ball.if not, never mind.:)

Alright. Sounds like I'm better off just using the trailer pin and recovery strap combo. I just ordered the strap last night. My only concern was bending the pin, getting it stuck in the receiver, if I had ever had to use the strap.
