93 Dodge W-150 problems starting sometimes

I have a 93 Dodge W-150, 318. My problem is sometimes it will start right up. Other times I have to try 3 or 4 times before it fires. I just replace the fuel pump thinking this was the problem, but it's doing it again. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

did you replace the fuel pump itself or did you replace the entire fuel pump assembly? have you tried holding the throttle a bit when you first start it?

have you checked the fuel pressure to make sure it is still holding fuel pressure after you shut the truck off? has there been any other issues with it lately?

I haven't checked the fuel pressure. What would I need to use to check it? About a year ago I had the fuel pump replaced by a local garage. They did burn up some of the wiring such as the wiring harness leading to the gas tank and rear lighting. Would a lose wire cause this maybe?

you would need a fuel pressure tester. if you got parts stores that loan out tools that might be the best route to go. there is a fuel pressure test port on the drivers side fuel rail.

a loose wire could cause all sorts of issues.

I have replaced the fuel pressure regulator and the problem still persists.

Here is an up date to this truck not starting. My son now has ownership of the truck. Now the truck won't fire at all. It cranks over very strong just won't fire. There is no spark leading to the coil. Here is what he has replaced so far. New fuel pump, coil. coil pickup, starter relay, fuel pump relay and ignition switch. He did find a wire burned and replaced it. Also has replaced the starter. He and I are both at our ropes end.

sounds like the crank position sensor has gone bad. it should be on the passenger side of the bell housing.

Crazzywolfie, my son is saying he can't find the sensor. He is about 165 miles from me or I would run right there and try and locate it for him. Are the wires going to it visible?

wires might be visible. i am not really sure since i have never had to replace one. it should be on the bell housing above the passenger side exhaust manifold. it might be a real pain in the ass to get at but if you have replace all the other sensors that is bout the only one that is very important and easily overlooked
