The seats are not the same, Megas have no indentation on the back seat like crew cabs have, and a couple more inches of leg room. A crew cab is fine even with grown adults sitting in the back, a mega is like a damn limo back there.

Reading the literature, the MegaCab has 3" more rear leg room.

one thing I am going to do and it is the same on the crew/ mega cab is pull the dam head rest from the sides and have a local upholstery shop cut them basically in half, so they are as small as the middle seat head rest.. cause they take up the whole damn window and they are just to big IMO.

I have 2 boosters and a car seat in the back of the megacab.
I went with it for several reasons.
  • The smaller kids(seat kickers) can't reach the seat backs in the megacab.
  • The full bench is much more comfortable for adults sitting in there.
  • The boosters sit better since the seating surface is more flat.
  • The 3/4 middle seat sucks in the crew if you have any height. It makes my feet go to sleep.
  • I'm the shorty in my family at 6', and I don't want to cram my 6'5" dad into a crewcab.

You nailed pretty much the MegaCab advantages.

Bigger rear seats
Middle seat MUCH bigger
No issues with any sized car seat in the middle. As I said, Diono asked me NOT to put their car seat and my child in the middle of the crew cab after they saw the pictures of the overhang. Yes, there are smaller seats, but even the smallest I could find (a booster) had 1" of overhang.

I have a 2015 Mega with the 6.4 and 4.10. Live in WV and tow our 31' TT through the mountains here with no problem. Getting to 3500-4000 ft and down. I have a Jayflight 28 BHBE and loaded, weighed at CAT scale was just shy of 8000. That was without wife, kids and bikes. Would put total to near 8400. Having said that, for a 5th I'd go 3500 dually with a CTD. Those are heavy rigs. Only advice I'd give would be to pick your TT and then your truck.
As for TTs, we got the bunk house because we wanted to not have to make beds every night and morning. 2nd door to bathroom is ideal when coming in and out to use it. Keeps dirt contained.

So, any decisions yet?

Just throwing my 2 cents here after owning several gas and now diesel trucks...My current setup is diesel 2500 CC 4x4 and trailer is 35 foot non 5th wheel...Trailer 8000 lbs...prolly loaded with water, propane and all our stuff..closer to 10k pounds....

Towed from Napa all over the Sierra Nevada into Canada and down the Rockies last fall and all over the Rockies in Colorado where we live all the time...

Couple of things...Gas mileage with a gasser and that much weight is gonna suck really bad...Likely single digits bad....

Second..what you really need to move that weight is torque which the diesel has in spades over the hemi..This is especially useful when that big rig jumps out of lane 2 to pass another on highway 80...that big power allows you to get back up to speed on those steep grades and at high altitudes.

And lastly...the integrated trailer brake and exhaust brake on the diesel REALLY makes a difference on long downhill sections...saved my bacon a few times in Canada...

Also...the 2500 is just fine at that weight...The only difference according to Dave Smith is the rear springs..3500 being heavier..

Cheers,
Ch

Not any more. Completely different setup on the 2500 with the coils.
