Big things coming in the near future! After my rebuild, I had a pretty bad oil leak on cylinder one. I was already kicking myself for not doing a stroker kit the first time around, but time and finances were just not lined up. But that's changed now! Here's the first piece of the puzzle, picked up a blown junkyard 5.7 motor for $400. I initially just wanted a bare block to start off with, but those were running $300-$400 by themselves. So now I have some backup parts to either experiment with or sell. So here's to the start of my 6.4 Hemi Stoker truck! 71254d4274860348774df6a10397289e.jpg

So spent about 3 hours disassembling everything. I knew the engine was blown, but didn't have any idea what was wrong with it. Pulled off the right side cylinder head and found cylinder 6 had no piston left! 417b5ead573ca0c28b645721e79ba759.jpg

Luckily it was just the head and it didn't throw the rod. The sleeve is trashed, so I'll have to have it re-sleeved when I have the engine bored. Overall not a huge deal, alittle disappointed but it's fixable. I was hoping to re-sell the heads to recoup some of the cost, looks like I'll only be able to sell one side b3a3765fc1b4a3d70ad9ea3bb03dc2ff.jpg
So I just need to get the timing cover off tommorow and finish pulling out the crank, clean up the block real good and send it to the machine shop. It will be a few weeks before the stoker gets ordered.

Finished stripping the block all the way down today. Tommorow I'll start with the wire brush to clean all the rust and old paint off the block, then send it off to the machine shop in a week or two. 9a9038c0c3cc534cb7ea64e32ceac098.jpg
I'm gonna look into the 6.1 ignition coil swap while I'm at it. I've always hated all the wires running across the intake manifold. So hopefully I can clean that mess up real nice

I've always thought the intake manifold on the Hemi was pretty ugly, especially with the hemi hat gone from a cold air intake. So I was looking up the Taylor shortie wires and happened across a random post showing off an intake that a guy cleaned all the excess plastic off of. Since I had a spare manifold from the new engine I figured what the heck. Spent a few hours with a dremel and got it most of the way cleaned up. I can't wait to get this painted and put on
Starting out. Ugh a ly!!! 60334f6f75625db25e3e971fec1b2afd.jpg

Now that looks like an intake!

Yeah no kidding, especially with the spark plug wires. I looked into the 6.1 intake from the cars, but apparently low end torque drops off and there is a lot of modification needed to make it work. This was practically free and kinda fun

I dropped off the engine block at the machine shop yesterday, gonna take about 3 weeks till I get it back. They are going to do a full cleanup, small overbore, resleeve the one cylinder, and change the cam bearings. I'll hopefully be able to order the stroker kit in a few weeks.

So to keep me busy for the time being, I found a new project! I happened to see a Facebook posting of some guy parting out an 06 ram so I made a spur of the moment deduction to do a 06-08 front end swap haha! He had the front fenders, grill and bumper cap for $120, couldn't pass that up. I directly blame @ramportini for this! After I saw how awesome his new headlights looked I wanted to improve mine. I never liked how the projectors are kinda tucked in and not very visible on the early lights. And I hate the plastic lines running across the lens, it totally ruins the look. So I'll repaint the fenders and cap, and do some custom paint/modifications to the grill. One piece of the grill insert is broken, so I'll have to see about fixing or replacing it. Anyone know if I can get a honeycomb insert for the 06-08 grills? I'm not a huge fan of the slats. As far as the headlights go I want to paint the insides black again but with red accents, and swap in my projectors from my current set. Hopefully all this works out haha

Bahahaha [emoji41] this made my day lol. To bad I can't ship for free I have literally brand new bare plastic inserts from my new grill I bought, I'd just give em to ya but since they're fairly large I'm assuming shipping wouldn't be worth it? 0655cd47a1a970d2ce7a63778f498a21.jpg

Lol extremely easy man, I bought my inserts which are the grillcraft black powder coated mesh inserts. 180 off Amazon free shipping and then you just drill 2 holes for each insert and it comes with screws and metal locking tabs for the screws. Done deal. You can however buy some cheap gutter screens from your local hardware store for cheap like 15 bucks or so and if you have the ability to powder yourself or for cheap do it that way and "goop" the **** out of em and they stay and look pretty good I've seen it done. But for the 180 id definitely go the grillcraft route again I'm very impressed with them. Quality is really good

Oh ok I'll have to check them out. Wasn't expecting them to cost that much. I wish I could use the old honeycomb out of my grill but I doubt that's possible with the different shape

I personally think the crosshair shell with mesh inserts is the best looking for these years d59a71bbbe619a234141899b1134a59b.jpgdaf1055f233d6fc0739894342237dcf9.jpg

I agree. Badass rig man, can't tell you enough how sweet that looks!
I am considering a grill with no crosshairs, not sure if I can bring myself to do it yet. Unless I can get a sweet "392" badge in the middle or maybe a 4th gen tailgate "ram" emblem in the middle. Idk yet, still looking at my options

They are actually on the cheap side vs other big name brands that go up to 999 for freaking inserts lol stuffs ridiculous now days [emoji23]. But I will say having seen a very well done gutter screen grill and bumper, a t rex full 1 piece insert which is like 800 or some crap and a cheap paramount replacement grill and I would GLADLY spend the 180 and do mine again, looks way better IMO and everything lines up perfectly, no gaps and they are solid as hell, zero vibration, hell you'd have to reallu put some umph in it if you wanted to try and bend em. But I totally get not wanting to spend 180 on dang inserts, why I went like 8 years without buying em lol
