See what I used and how I did it.

First heres the pic Matt provided then the pic's I researched.

I use "Art Text" program for my fonts.

I used the star trek pic inside the font then save. Then I choose the embossed highlight then save that as a separate file. I then open it up in Photoshop CS5 Extended and edit then sandwich the two layers. I then duplicated the layers twice then used the wind filter under stylize then with the other duplicate I darken(under brightness/contrast) then motion blur. Under edit I stroke the outline, then again in a lighter color.
After that I sandwich all the layers together.

One of the tools I use allot is the eraser tool and I set at 20% here and went over this a few times.

Cool write-up! I never would have thought to do that with the text, but I'm not very artistic either. Lol.

Heres the website for the program but unfortunately they only make it for mac which bugs the crap out of me because all my pc friends can't use it.

Unfortunately I haven't seen any programs close to Art Text. But I also haven't explored SC5 Extended to its full potential ether.
However I did find this other program you can add that can do some cool stuff-

Pretty damned good write up. Some day I'll get back into graphics. I miss it from time to time. But doing them on a 15" laptop screen sucks badly.

I have cs5 on my 13 laptop and it does suck. Feel more comfortable on my desktop.

For this one I used the 3d stuff in cs5 extended.

I just go under 3d then hit new 3d postcard from layer then go to my tools and grab this then rotate up then made a duplicate or create another layer then rotate down.

bottom part-

top part-

added shadow to help give it some dimension-

Heres one of two layers of the truck I erased the edges some to soften up the transition so it blends in better with the floor.

Here with layer two I erase the shadow part so layer one is doing its job.

Final sig looks like this-

I can't believe I'm going to type this, but I'm really considering getting a Mac Desktop.
Those Cinema displays are badass too!
