I have a 2012 1500 5.7L Quad Cab Outdoorsman...

This morning I arrived at work and realized I had forgotten something at home (20 minute drive). I made the decision that I was going to go home and get it but was under a time crunch. Therefore, as you can imagine I drove pretty hard to get home and back quickly. About halfway home I noticed that when I was accelerating out of turns, I was getting STRONG vibrations and an obvious lack of acceleration that only seemed to get worse as I went along. These vibration didn't occur at coasting speed, only on acceleration. (Avg 55-70mph in mountainous WV) Arrived at home, got what I needed and headed back to work. On my way back, I didnt drive nearly as hard and had ZERO issues with vibrations or accelerating. Is this something I should be concerned about? Was the vibration because for that 10-20 minutes, I was giving driving harder than normal? Also, I didnt have any messages appear on the screen identifying any problems so I want to assume its not a motor issue. Tire pressure seemed okay, tire wear good, not a super cold morning....

If you have any guesses or knowledge please share!!!!

Possibly a torque converter issue. I had similar symptoms on my 09 when I pushed the truck hard.

Vibration on acceleration is usually on FWD cars, or AWD transverse engine vehicles, and it usually relates to a faulty CV axle and / or bad engine mounts throwing the CV angles out of whack.

A RWD drive shaft that vibrates will usually just get worse with speed or even get worse when coasting. I would just double check your drive shaft anyways, check for any mud or foreign material on the shaft that could be throwing it off balance, or looseness / play in the U-joints

No traction control/ABS light? Almost sounds like a wheel speed sensor acting up. Is the truck lifted, have any obvious tire wear issues, or possibly a mismatched tire?

Update on this original post. The shaking still happens periodically when the truck is pushed hard (high RPM) most frequently when passing other vehicles on country roads. More recently, when this happens the check engine light comes on and goes right back off when the truck starts running correctly again (once I decelerate/coast for a 15-20 seconds) BUT I have never gotten a system message indicating any problem.
Something isn't right, but I don't know the answer and my hope was that someone else has had a similar issue and I am not the unlucky guy who has a serious issue on his hands.
SideNote: Other than this issue, I LOVE MY TRUCK!

Does the check engine light blink/flash or stay on steady when its acting up.
If it is blinking but goes out when you let off, it is probably detecting a misfire.
They don't always set fault codes for misfires if it doesn't miss long enough.

I think it was posted on another forum, there was a guy having the whole tail end of the transmission/transfer case shake on acceleration. He posted GoPro video it shaking, if I remember correctly it would happen on acceleration from a stop also.

Hey WV34,

I tried to see if we had any bulletins or STAR cases that might match what you've described. The only one I could find that has any similar symptoms (vibration, higher speed) was this guy--but it has to do with MDS. It's an old flash, so you may have already had it performed, but just in case it might be helpful in some way, I wanted you to have it!

"NUMBER: 18-050-14 REV. A
GROUP: Vehicle Performance
DATE: December 09, 2014

SUBJECT:
Flash: Drone or Vibration Present During MDS Operation
OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves selectively erasing and reprogramming the Powertrain Control
Module (PCM) with new software.
MODELS:
**2010 - 2013** (DS) Ram 1500
NOTE: This bulletin applies to vehicles equipped with a 5.7L engine (sales code
EZH) and an automatic transmission (sales code DGQ or DG1) built on or
before July 17, 2014 (MDH 0717XX).

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
New PCM software is being released to address a customer’s concern of a drone or
vibration type condition while driving at highway speeds during MDS (Multiple
Displacement System) operation.
In addition, the following powertrain system improvements/enhancements are also
included in this software release:
· Improved Electronic Voltage Regulator control to more precisely maintain system
voltage.
· **Enhanced Automatic Oil Change Indicator(EAOCI) system improvements to switch
to a severe duty cycle algorithm anytime the PCM is replaced to ensure the
customer receives a timely oil change required message**.
· P0300 - Multiple Cylinder Misfire (Only applies to vehicles using a block heater
in ambient temperatures greater than -20°F(-29°C))."

The obvious question is does it do this shaking thing in straight line acceleration. If not it is likely the tires fighting for traction in the curve. You said you were driving pretty aggressively. Generally these trucks don't have a open diff. It has a "anti spin" diff which can be sometimes be unpredictable I have found depending on the road service.
I've found it is NOT a limited slip and does not behave like one. It only seem to engage on hard surfaces, not necessarily on something slick (like wet grass).

*Yes the shaking also occurs when driving in a straight line such as on the highway.

*I do not recall if the check engine light was solid or blinked, I will be sure to notice that the next time it occurs.

*When I attempt to accelerate normally when the problem occurs, the truck will not respond correctly. In order to continue along and eliminate the vibration I have to slow way down OR mash on it again (high RPMS) and the truck responds and accelerates.

I pushed it hard this morning on my way to work in hopes of seeing the check engine light. The shaking/lack of acceleration happened and the check engine light blinked several times. With all the suggestions given and searching the internet for similar stories, it really sounds to me like a misfire. I will get it into the shop ASAP, hopefully it's a fix that doesn't hurt my wallet :)
