4th Gen Tailgates

Well, it was inevitable... Despite all the sensors and the presence of a backup camera, I managed to back into a tree. My tailgate is dented at the top and now I'm faced with either filing an insurance claim to get it fixed, buying a new one or picking up one off of Craigslist. I've had several people offer me thier tailgates but I'm concerned that they might not fit or that I won't get all the functionality that I have with the original one. Mine has a backup camera and it locks along with the rest of my doors with my key fob. My questions are... #1 Are all 4th gen tailgates interchangable? #2 Can I pull the guts from my old tailgate and install them in the new one? I have a black 2014 Ram 1500 Lonestar. Thanks in advance for your input.

I dont see why you cant pull the parts and switch them out. I am not 100% sure they are interchangeable, I would hope so!

As far as I know all the Tailgates parts from 09+ are interchangeable....

For anyone that cares, I did find a 4th gen replacement. The camera and auto locking mechanism fit perfectly. I do have to note that my research found that while all 4th gen tailgates may be similar, a more exact match for mine is between the years 2011 and 2014. I got confirmation from a couple of sites where you can buy aftermarket tailgates. Compatibility was consistent on most sites for 2014 all the way down to 2011 but 2010 and 2009 were a little different.

Do you know whats different?

Really strange because they didn't change anything.

Yeah, I'm interested to know what's different. The dimensions must be the same. Maybe it didn't include a camera and auto lock?
