Looks like I'm returning the 5" tips due to my body lift and I'm just going to paint my stock tips.

Im looking to paint them gloss black and wondering on what method to use?

I've seen high temperature paint for engines and grills, but do I still need to sand and prep with adhesion promoter?

Convert, for now.

I just used some wet/dry paper, scuffed them and shot 3-4 coats of high temp black, and plenty of dry time inbetween.

no adhesion promoter? Have they been holding up good?

Just a suggestion, check around with local powder coat shops. Found one in my town that will do the tips for $20 each in gloss black. Planning on dropping them off after the first of the year to get them done.

Yup, that's what I did. Had them powder coated for $50.

I did HiTemp paint as well...

But I don't know if that is necessary. Does anyong know how hot the tips get? I've got a laser temp gauge, but never shot the tips.

But they are FLAT black. I was hoping for more of a matte finish. I really don't want gloss for mine, and I'm cheap.

Ok so mine are drying after 3 coats of 500'f high temp paint with ceramic. I went with a high gloss black and it looks amazing!

I used a laser temp gauge today and it never got above 50 (50 outside temp too) sittin in my driveway for 10min. Im gonna take a drive later and when I get back Ill shoot it again. I honestly dont see it getting above 150 even on the hottest days

Heres a better pic for you bud . I got flat black due to my emblems . But their is high temp paint with gloss finish. be careful on the first 2 coats . First coat is a dust , second coat is a tad more , and you can probably even go on a 4th coat to get it covered with no mess . ( happened to me ) Good luck ! I painted mine with flat black hi-temp paint.

WAY too flat, so I bought a can of semi gloss hi temp grill paint, did 2 or 3 more coats and they look awesome, match my plastidip badges almost perfect.

I do NOT let the paint fully dry before going to the next coat. I'm an old duck decoy carver/painter, I learned that by not letting the current coat cure, I achieve better tooth, and less peeling.

That's just how I do it, works for me, and YMMV.

Looks great! :waytogo:

I Plasti-Dip'd mine in the summer. Waiting for spring to see what, if any, damage the winter may have done. Lots of salt and sand here. Might go this route or powder coating when I get to do the body lift in a couple months if the Plasti-Dip is damaged.
