I have a brand new 2017 RAM 1500 with under 1K miles on it. It's a great truck except I noticed an issue with the A/C and heating system. When I turn on the A/C or heat a whistle sound presents itself. It sounds like it's coming from under the glove box. The sound goes away when I open any of the four doors. It also goes away when I turn on recirculating mode. It gets louder when I up the fan speed. Finally, it whistles louder on A/C than when on heat. Any help would be appreciated.

Already tried:
opening all vents and facing them in different directions

Thanks.

The cabin air filter is behind the glove box. I'd start there. Check the door is sealing up like it should. Also pull the filter and check that nothing is hung up inside.

It's the cabin air filter door. I had the same issue. It seals awkwardly, you need to push the door in and press each retainer clip (right and left side) outboard until you hear a click.

I took off the cabin filter door and reinstalled it. There isn't a gasket or anything for the door. It's just plastic. It still whistles. Nothing is in filter either.

I thought mine was too, but you really got to press on it then push each clip out until you hear an audible click.

Did you confirm that is where it is coming from?

Pushed on it pretty hard. Even when it was in, i tried giving it a lot of extra force while the A/C was on and it still whistled no matter how hard I pushed.

But the sound was definitely coming from there?

Absolutely coming from there. It gets louder as I higher the fan setting. Any other ideas?

OK so did you actually hear a click when you push outboard on the release tab. Inwards towards the door realises, but outward "hooks" them on. Mine made this noise until I got each tab to catch. Try pressing on the door front towards either side as you push outward on the clip for that side. I recommend starting with the right side as its trickier to reach.

Take the door off and cover it with duct tape as a test to see if it really is coming from there, or inside of the unit itself.

Duct tape wont have any 'air leaks' so you will know 100% it is the door if the noise is no longer happening after you test that way.
