Give it a chance fo break in. It will get better. Does it feel any different than the 5.7?

If you're anywhere it's cold, winter gas and the cold itself is killing your mileage. It's killing all our mileage.

Unless you're cruising state highways at 65 with a tail wind, no elevation change I don't think you'll see 15 out of a 2500 (4x4 especially).

I average 13 with my Crew Cab 4x 5.7 2500, and I'm pretty easy with it overall.

I dropped like 3MPG since winter kicked in. My question is how bad is this fuel for our engines if it causes that big of a drop in performance?

"Winter" gas has been around for how long? I don't remember hearing about it until a few years back. My neck of the woods has mild winters and no real need for a change in gas to function. I think its BS and a way for us to consume and spend more.

The higher the 'oxigination' of fuel, which is what they do for winter, the lower the energy content / unit measure of the fuel.

They have really started pushing winter fuel nation wide within the last 5-6 years, before it seemed to be something that only happened in smog **** areas.

If you ever had your fuel system freeze up, then you will know that the loss in economy is worth it.
Your fuel system doesn't freeze up with mild temps. It's when it's extremely cold you have problems. The worst time ever!
I deal with people having fuel issues with their tractors, skids steers etc.
In fact I spent most of last week dealing with this. almost all were having problems because they didn't have winter fuel.
Some were EGR related. The valve would freeze up and pump the engine oil out of the exhaust, but that's another issue.

So it's done to keep fuel from freezing? That's why I always added gas dryer a couple times during winter, to get any water out.

That makes since for place's in the North that freezes but here in the south I don't see the need for a change. It gets down in the 20's at times but its mostly pretty mild here. Very few tractor's (almost none) lock up around here due to frozen fuel and even the tires filled with water barely freeze. My mpg goes from 19.5 down to 17.3 during the winter. I even notice from state to state my mileage changes. Coming from Atlanta back to La I avg 21.5 but once I get back to La the best I can do is 18.1.

OP the current mileage your seeing, is exactly what im seeing in my 1500. I am down about 2-2.5 mpg from the summer. What kills me on a regular basis is my geographic location. I live immediatley right outside the philadelphia city limit, which is still stop and go every 2 or 3 blocks. during the summer im around 13 mpg around town. I drive aggressively cause I love the sound of my muffler delete lol.

Winter kills us - Winter Fuel, Tempature, Morning Warm Ups, Snow Driving.

those are extremely valid reasons to expect reduced mpg during the winter in my book.

Yep, what caldwell and other said and then again I didn't buy my 2500 because of the saving but maybe some did, I don't mind the lost of 2 mpg. I was getting 13 city and about 18 highway in my 2011 1500, well with my 2500 in the city I get 12-13 but I haven't try just highway yet, I will in a week or so.

Most of the US has winter fuel because you get worse gas mileage and have to buy more and therefore the gas companies make more profit...

If y'all have any gas stations that sale fuel without ethanol that will be your best bet. I have one place here close to where I work at that sales it. I am going to fill up tomorrow with it and see what numbers I get from it. I have roughly 500 miles on mine (1 week of driving) and have been averaging 11mpg. That's city and limited 4 lane at 70mph. My Silverado got about 4 to 5 mpg more with the ethanol free fuel. And my motorcycle gets about 10 mpg more. Ethanol is a huge milage killer. E85 is even worse. It's the devil........ Lol.....
