4.7 Tuning/Performance

Hey all, just picked up my first ram, it unfortunately only has the 4.7 PowerlessTech in it but was wondering if anyone on here has any tuning/performance parts they would recommend to get the most power out of this thing. Thanks in advance!

I had an 09 ram with the 4.7, I liked really well. It towed fine and got decent gas mileage. I also added a super chips tuner to it with the transmission tuning. It did help but mostly in the mid rpm range.

Go to AirRam.com they have almost everything to make a 4.7 go.

I love my 4.7, issues is all the upgrades are 09-12, and I'm 13, so I can't add then and smog it... If it's so unfortunate why did you buy it?

imho, the 4.7 is a great long lived engine. bought a new 04 grand cherokee limited with the 4.7. went over 230000 miles when i traded it last dec. not a bit of engine trouble. don't know about your newer 4.7, but they were known to have sludge issues. i used mobil one at 5000 mile oci. no issues.

Forgive my terminology, its not unfortunate that i have the 4.7, I think its a great motor but im unfortunate that I cant find any stand out mods, but im probably not looking hard enough. Lol

If you have a 13, you won't find and that are CARB legal but if your not in California doesn't matter as far as I know. Otherwise 08-12 mods will work

I think the sludging was only first gen 4.7 issue, the new ones I think only have egr issues. But we'll see. I can't find any problems on line with this engine.

My buddy has an 08 with the 4.7, and I was surprised how peppy it was. We did a quick race with my 03 hemi and he barely beat me, that's before I started heavily customizing mine.

PCT, you are most likely right. can't speak the to the later gens, but i think the 4.7 is great engine.

There's not much available for the 08 and up 4.7.Air Raid offer a CAI ,Matt/Moes has a ported throttle body /any catback exhaust for a Hemi fits.Diablo has a tuner compatiable with the 4.7 /Jet offer a ************* thermostat,that i'd avoid .There's no headers /cams for the 08 to 13 4.7. Odds are you have 3.55 gears,stepping up to a set of 3.92's or 4.10's will help.You can do a convertor to. Search around on here Darkknight put a 100 shot of nitrous on his,and is the only 4th Gen 4.7 to hit the high 13's that I know of.Search around on the other ramforum site,i managed to pull 256hp at the tires after spending 5 hours on the dyno,out of my old 13,and it would give a stock hemi a run for the money through the 1/4,and would eat an untuned hemi on the top-end,with the limiter removed through the diablo tuner

Use Mobil 1 or a good Synthetic oil and keep it change every 5 to 6 thousand miles you will be ok.Part of the life of any engine keeping up maintance.Check out Air ram they may have what you looking for call them and see.

Air Ram doesn't have anything for the later 08 and up 4.7's with the redesigned heads.The exhaust ports are relocated,so there's no off the shelf headers available,and the later 4.7 cams are the cams that are retro fitted into the earlier 4.7's,consequently there's no off the shelf cams available for the later 4.7 either.Went through all this trying to build a quick 2013 4.7 a couple years ago,finally gave up and bought a hemi,lol.I ran Redline oil in my 4.7,and it seemed to like it.

I put a superchips on my old 07 TRX4 4.7 and that alone really woke it up. I didn't go as far as adding anything else, but I am sure it could have improved more. Not sure exactly how much power you want to achieve, but selecting the right tuner for your needs, a CAI and exhaust should probably get you where you want to be. The Diablo may be a better tuner as you can customize it, where superchips are canned tunes, but still provide improvement.
