4th Gen Coil Pack Bad News (for me)

I am just wondereing if anyone else has had problems with the 5.9 Hemi coil packs.

I bought the truck new about 7 months ago and have 7800 miles on it. Today the check eng. light comes on , back to the dealer it goes. I get a call about 3 hour later it's a bad coil pack. This is the 3rd bad coil pack in 7 moths!

The BAD NEWS: there is no coil packs in the U.S.A. and about 1000 on back order with no ship date posted. Service department said it may be up to 3 weeks to get a new coil pack and get the truck back to me.........WTF

So I am just wondering if anyone else has had a bad coil pack?

You are right.... it sucks big time. I just find it hard to comprehend it may take 3 weeks for a coil.

Dayum! Sorry to hear about that. Hope it doesn't happen to me. My crappy dealer would take probably twice as long. Lol.

Haven't heard of this.

You should be able to lemon it after 3 unsuccessful repairs.

I have been thinking about the lemon law, but with the add-on’s to the truck it may not be cost effective. I do not think I would buy another Ram again so these parts would be waste.

pull the canopy and sell it, youll get your money back on the warranty, just cut your losses and lemon law it. Or if you decide you want to keep it, make the dealer give you a rental for free for those 3 weeks and wait for it to get fixed

You should get your money back on the upgrades you did if you lemon it.

I would make the dealer pull a set off one on the lot and let HIM wait the 3 weeks for a replacement.

That prolly won't happen.

Maybe try searching for a wrecked 4gen ram that still has a good motor and yanks a coil pack from it...maybe the others for spares?

If you consider lemon lawing it I could provide you with info for a national atty. Don't cost you a penny. They collect their fees from Chrysler.

I just wanted to give a quick up-date on my coil pack eating Hemi.

I got my truck back yesterday after waiting 3 weeks for the dealer to replace a $30.00 coil pack. The truck ran great, no check eng. light and no misfire. While waiting for my truck I made the decision to trade it in and cut my losses. So I now have a 2012 GMC & Honda Pilot.

The funny thing is one day after trading in the 2011 Ram the GMC dealer calls me and said the check eng. light is on again. I know my local Dodge dealer only received two coil packs and now has none! When the service manager test drove my truck the check eng. light came on within 5 minutes and the new coil pack was bad and had to replace it before I picked up the truck this last Monday.

This board is great with lots of good information on the Ram trucks, but since I do not own a Ram any logger I will not be vesting it much.

BTW: in a couple of days I will be selling my Retro-Shop Ram HID Projector Retrofitted Quad Headlamps (complete TYC headlight housings along with 2 NEW extra 55 watt ballast & 2 NEW extra 55 watt HID bulbs. Also a Billet Specialty catch can only used about one week.

hate to say it but it was smart to ditch the truck. There are always bad ones i the bunch
