If you make your own, does it make a difference if you don't have a box around it? I've been thinking about getting a CAI as my next mod, and if i can get away with making my own for less with the same results, then i'm gonna do it. I just don't wanna end up spending the money to make it and not be happy with what I get.

All the box does is help the intake to directionaly suck air. I'm going to make my own, but just as a heat shield to block off direct heat off the motor. I did the same thing in my 01 cummins I just sold. I had a BHAF on it. If you don't know what that is...I recommend googling it :********:

I have the K & N and was surprised by how loud it is, no so much a whistle just that you hear the air into the throttle body more. I've always upgraded to a K & N CAI in all my vehicles and this is the first time I've heard it so much. I even went with the Magnaflow 14" muffler to balance it out and there are times I still hear the intake over the exhaust. Overall I think they are all about the same but I'd be curious to see if the Volant avoids the noise.

Let me find some of my customer pics . I just recently sold and installed them but they were on diesels. Don't know if that would help.

Home brew here like catchin z's. i use 4 inch pipe and its closer to the headlight but same idea. it sounded awesome till i decided to make it louder on the other end lol. It was around 60 bucks between filter and fittings.

I honestly think volant is pretty awesome! It's a completely closed and sealed off box from the engine bay, assuring only cool air goes in. Most of the other intakes only have partial shields of metal or plastic.

I just installed the K&N on my 2012 Ram 5.7 and so far so good. Love the sound whenever you put your foot into it even just a little. I just took a trip from east tenn to right outside KCMO and got 20.5 per gallon the whole trip.

I've got the stage II aFe intake. I only hear it when I put my foot in it passing on the hwy or from a stop. Really don't have any complaints...

Here it is, after I post in the wrong thread LOL
Took a full afternoon for the build and waiting for the paint to dry. Whistles pretty loud under the hood, especially when you cut the truck off.

this doesn kick on the check engine light for something like mass air flow sensor or anything?
think of doing this now but i dont want the nasty emissions light that makes ppl emo rage and beat their 6 month olds
