So today I took my truck in for a bad oil pressure sensor/switch. I put the tuck back to stock before I dropped it off. When I picked it up from the dealership I tried to load the premium tune back in and the bully dog froze at 1% left on the download for about 5 minutes them it finally said it was finished. So when I go to start the truck it wouldn't even try to turn over. So I ran a check with the bully dog and it gives a code saying pcm not programmed. I had the truck towed back to the dealership. I hate to see what this is going to cost or if they will try to void my warranty. Have any of you had this happen? When I get the truck back should I try and reload the bully dog or just get rid of it? Thanks for any info.

Did you talk to bully dog before you send the truck back to the dealership?

No I stopped on the way home to install the tune so I was stranded and had to do something before the dealership closed.

I had a bad install on my first download and my truck got mad at me. I unplugged it and called BD and they got it all straighten out and runs like a champ. I wouldn't get rid of it. You flipped the power switch on the line when installing right?

This has happened to me on three different vehicles. Once with a hypertech and twice with a Diablo tuner. Each time the tune failed to load part way through. Each time the dealer diagnosed the problem as catastrophic pcm failure.

Upon considerable research it seems that the problem is created by low voltage from the battery. Both Bullydog and Diablo now say in the tuning instructions to have the vehicle hooked to a battery charger before tuning.

Hope this helps.

cdhd2001 what did the dealership do? Did they charge you? Did they void your warranty?

The first two were voided warranty and pay out of pocket. Last one was covered by warranty. All three were considered "dead" pcms, they wouldn't communicate with the dealer computer.

Depends on your relationship with the dealer. I am good friends with the gm at the current dealer.

If you are not on good terms with the dealer, then what they don't know won't hurt you. Aka, play "ignorant but courteous".

Pcms installed cost about $1k. This what the warranty cost was on the last one.

Well I dodged a bullet this time. Cody at Bully Dog was able to remotely fix my truck, saving my warranty and a lot of money. He was able to upload a stock Ram tune into the truck to get it back running then when I got it home I was able to reload the premium tune back to the tuck. Truck is running great and it was a great experience with Bully Dog tech support. Thanks everyone for your comments.

That's good news and very interesting that they can do that. Hat's off to Bullydog!

I'm glad they got it fixed for you. I didn't know they would be able to do that either
