My guess is 75W140 GL-5 but you really need to double check that. No owners manual? You don't need an additive unless you hear chatter, then add an ounce at a time. redline gear oil is good stuff.

It appears that is the proper weight for the back, many guys are running something else in the front 75w90.

Not sure, just used search on the forum and came up with that. getting time to do mine as well.

My Front diff never really gets used much... Nor is it submerged in water... Only time it is used is during the winter months with the Snow & Ice storms... When I do change it Red Line 75W-90 will be used...

I changed my Rear diff fluid out @ the 10K mile mark on the advice from my Service Mgr...Refilled with Red Line 75W- 140 & 4oz Anti Slip additive... Will drain and fill the rearend again at the 30K mile mark... Then at 60K mile mark... Only takes about 20min.

Hey thanks Guys !

I do have my owners manual , I was just looking for what others might be using to help me make a decision on what to use.
I will definitely be using Redline oil !

I was reading up on the Redline differential oils , some in the same weight class specifically say synthetic , some doesn't mention synthetic ? I thought all Redline oils wer 100% synthetic?

I also found 75-140 listed for use with Anti-spin Differentials and some 75-140 that didn't mention Anti-spin or synthetic . Turns out Redline does make an Anti-spin additive as well .

In conclusion I'm thinking of going with the Redline 75-90 synthetic in the front and 75-140 synthetic in the rear end and add the Redline Anti-spin additive .

What's your thoughts on my conclusion stated above ?

I'll be draining my oil from the differentials through a paint filter to see how much metal is there from breaking in ,( if it's too thick for the filter then I'll use a strong rare earth magnet in a small funnel to catch the metal )
well not really a breaking in oil change I have about 27,500 miles now and plan on changing @ 30k .
I'll be posting up pics of my findings for every one to see just for the hell of it .

Thanks for the read .

Theses old & new style (Limited or Anti) slip rearends really like Fresh oil... They seem to wear fairly fast with any type of contamination floating and circulating within the current oil... Thus more frequent servicing will only benefit the life of unit and prolong proper operation of so called friction plates...

Make sure you drive the truck around for a while to get all the contaminated particles back in suspention so they will drain out with the oil...(if you drain with the drain plug)...

Many owners neglect their (Anti or Limited) slip rearends... These rascals do need more frequent service compared to your normal open rearends...Esp if the rearends are subjected to a lot of towing!!

I have a 2014 2wd, so not sure if we have the same rear end or not...is there a gasket there or do you have to make your own with some RTV? I just got to 20k on my truck and have done a few ~400 mile trips towing about 3k pounds behind me...figured it was time to swap out the stock stuff and get out any shavings that could cause future problems.

Pretty sure mine has a drain plug.
Not sure about if you remove the housing . Likely a gasket or gasket making compound such as Blue Hylomar .

Both of you should have a drain plug like mine!!
I will not ever remove the pan... I will drive the ram for a few miles before drain to get the lose shavings or any contaminates in suspension so they will drain out with the oil...

Drain plug doesn't really get all the debris out though, which I want to do on the first change.

Put a strong magnet on your drain plug bolt for 20 - 30 miles of driving just prior to draining.
I've done this for 30 years , works great !

I filtered my first drain and very little shavings was present... Frequent drains with a gear oil like Red Line or Amsoil Severe Gear--->I see no need to remove the pan... Just drive it before you drain...

If I bought my truck used instead of new--> I would remove the cover and clean with brake cleaner the first time... Then use the drain plug there after...

Ok, I'll try that out for sure. I haven't even looked at my rear end yet...will probably do it tomorrow when changing my oil.

The reason I changed my rear end fluid early at 10,000 miles. I towed at 5000 pound travel trailer a few times before I hit the 10,000 mile mark...

I drained my first at 10,000 miles to get the initial wear metal shavings out of there because of the heavy tow I did... Also my service manager told me it would be a good idea as well...

All redline is ester based synthetic oil. The oil stop recommendation for when you move up to redline is 60k miles I believe. Whatever group 3 you were using at least double for ester based gear fluid.

Just found out about this. application guide for Redline. Put in your vehicle and it recommends what fluid. Pretty cool IMO.
