I have had my 2015 truck for just over a year and loved it, I was even bragging it up at a gas station on a family vacation less than 10 minutes before it blew the motor. I was in cruse control on the freeway, all gauges were in normal range when it began to lose power, then 45 sec later the oil pressure fell flat. I tried to turn it off but it must be in park for the push button ignition to shut it down. By the time I got over to the side of the freeway the motor was, "let's just say much louder than before". It is going to be at least 3 or more weeks for the dealer to get it fixed, because they have to approve everything through Chrysler for each step of the process on the repair. That doesn't help me I need a truck for work, so I had to buy another truck, and not an ecodiesel, while my $50K yard ornament sits waiting to be fixed. Has anyone heard of this type of failure before? I had 42000 miles on it. I might have some friends ticked off at me because I bragged it up influencing some of my friends to buy one.

^^ what he said. Hmm, assuming that's one to many zeros and is 42K miles yeah? That's damn annoying. Did they say what caused it to fall on its face and blow the motor? And why no loaner truck? They say no to that?

For sure, feels like a kick to the groin. I waited a year to buy it to see if the Eco diesel was going to have issues, but did not hear of any so I pulled the trigger and bought one. I am selling the truck as soon as it is fixed.

I had to pay a wreaker to pull the trailer to the dealer, they would only cover the truck, no loaner, and that 42,000 miles on it.

Wow that's kind of lame of them I think.
Anyways yeah definitely interested to hear the cause. Sorry to hear about it all though. Sucks when it happens to such an expensive rig.

Just buy a Cummins for not much more I will never trust a new engine that's made by fiat.

Agree, if you're going to be using your diesel for work purposes just get the heavy duty truck with cummins. Much more tried and true.

Just a quick update... The dealer that has the ecodiesel still has done nothing because they are waiting on Chrysler who will not approve anything because the dealer I bought the truck from did not send the oil change info for the warranty until today when I had to go in and talk to the manager. Nothing happens unless you do it yourself. Also the 2015 Cummins I bought because I need a truck is in the shop today....radio screen issue. I have always had fords and had a few problems here and there, but nothing like this. I might be going back. Sucks though now that I have over 100k into 2 trucks.:(

Another reason I will only buy a base model bare bones truck. Issues! 100k for a two trucks?

sorry to hear about the ecodiesel. once your radio is fixed and you have had your cummins for awhile, you will never want any other truck.

Sorry to hear- but your experience shows - everything stands and falls with the dealer.
They should have gave you a loaner right away with no discussion and do everything to keep you at the brand.
I am not a friend of Fiat engines- I'm from Europe and it has reasons, why people only buy fiat, when they can't find anything else for the money they have. they have a sub par reputation and they proof it with every single car they sell. and it has reasons, why fiat right now can only survive with the money they make off of Chrysler. if they would not have Chrysler, they would had been already bankrupt.
stick with hemi or Cummins - they are proven good and keep the promise.

Yeah the dealer should have stepped up to assist. I'm surprised you bought another truck especially from them, unless it needed customized for the job. You can rent 1500's in most areas, there's even the small commercial rental places that have trucks, flatbeds and boxtrucks. I've known people that have gone both ways and even ended up being cheaper in the end as maintenance was automatically taken care of. As for the engine I'd guess that'***** or miss this engine has been in use since 2011, the 2.8 in the Liberty's were amazing and never heard any real issues other than the torque converter issues. I really wish they would have just went with a detuned 5.9 or other cummins setup.

Hey Farmer,

Really sorry to hear about the issues with both of your trucks. If you need any support, I’m happy to follow up with the dealership and see what I can do to help.

When I got my Ram 1500 Sport a few months back I asked about the Eco Diesel. At two different dealerships they said that they don't keep them in stock. At the dealer where I eventually got my Ram 1500 they said that there was a major recall on the eco diesel.

somewhat unrelated, but ill throw this in...

my 2014 ecodiesel, at 9***k miles, the exhaust piece they eventually recalled broke, there was lots of blue smoke rolling out under the hood at all times, into the cab, etc.

Chrysler said it was a health hazard, wouldn't let me have the truck until it was fixed. Sounds nice right?

yeaaaaaaaaa..... so 4 weeks it took to get this part. Meanwhile I'm paying 800 a month for the truck but I'm driving a rental avenger. 4 weeks.

100 miles on new exhaust pipe, and its busted again. more smoke. more smell.

I basically RAGED in the dealer show room. Not the service dept (where no one cares) but in the show room where all the sales were going on. Am I proud of this? Not really, but I finally broke down.

I ended up getting 41k trade in for the truck ( I paid 43.3K OTD ) so not too bad really, and they sold me a hemi at current market price ( about 11k under MSRP). No problems in the hemi at 17k miles now. I don't like the 3.21 gears, they shouldn't even sell them, but that's my only complaint. Beggers cant be choosers, that's all they had on the lot, so I took it to get out of the ****box.

While I really like the idea of the ecodiesel, and I LOVED driving it, I wouldn't recommend it. All those failed oil coolers, once that happens, shes done. and Chrysler isn't replacing those motors, they are just flushing the coolant system (lol) and replacing the busted oil cooler with another new one. Ticking time bomb.

until they get serious about fixing all the issues, I wouldn't touch it.

Even if you don't need it, stick with the cummins. They hold value and have minimal issues that plague them.

As for your radio deal, both of mine have had issues with the screen/radio. But if that's the only thing that happens, you are doing good.
