Dang, not great. Redline producing less wear then PUP. Look how low that viscosity is.

If it were me and I was gonna run PUP, based on that uoa I would think it is fine to run 0w40 in the 5.7.

Which oil was your second run on this page, the one with the highest visc? That is much higher then 7 qrts of 0w40 PUP was and you had no issues? I would think about running 0w40 PUP if not for Redline, I tell you.

That was 4 qtr of of Redline 5W-30 and 3 qts of Redline 0W-40 [emoji44][emoji44]
And ZERO ISSUES ! infact it was probably the smoothest my 5.7 has ran ...

Look at how uniform the calcium, zinc, and phos is, and how they drop on the PUP. Just another example of how good blackstone is imo. Just makes me want to go buy some redline.

Didn't you say one time that PUP 0/40 was one of the thinner 40 wt's?

PUP 0w40 is on the lighter side of the 40wt spectrum, I have 0 doubt you could run 7 qts in a 5.7
I believe someone has ....

@ BBB I TOLD YOU WRONG SIR , the 2nd uoa was a 50/50 mix of RL 30/40 wt the first one was 3ea 40wt and 4ea 30 wt RL

Just for ***** and giggles I was checking prices on Amazon. Now I didn't search for the best deal but just what I seen redline and PUP are almost the same price. That being said I wouldn't even consider PUP.

It's a good thing you change your oil in such short increments. When you ad the numbers up, they're not so impressive. Of the samples shown, it averages out to just over a 4k mi OCI and Avg TBN of 4.7. If the longest OCI TBN weren't missing, it would be even worse. As far as I know, he doesn't tow much and the majority is highway driving. It's not personal, it's just numbers.

Mine, on the other hand, paints a different picture. 10k+ mi avg OCI, 3.78 avg TBN. About half of that is towing a race trailer with 10-12k lbs. on it. At times touching 20k total vehicle/trailer weight. Makes me want to become an Amsoil dealer. This is why they've continued to thrive as a private company for 45 years and not had to sell out to big oil. They have something that not even big oil with all their resources can best. And everyone wonders why they are so tight-lipped about their formulas?!?

Help!!

I may irritate some of you with this, but here goes. I have no interest in spending a fortune on oil, no interest is using anything but 5w 20 as my HEMI calls for, and I have no desire to mix.

That being said, I intend to change my oil every 6 months and use the best synthetic I can afford, ie...5 quarts for under $30.00.

I sell AMSOIL (really, just buy for family that wants it), but I am not stuck on it. I rarely drive my RAM like I stole it, but will be pulling a 5000 pound travel trailer 6 or so times a year.

With all this in mind, what synthetic 5W 20 should I go with? I have researched this to death and now I am more confused. My truck only has 1800 miles on it, so all this could go to crap if the tick develops. Thanks, for your answers.

Rob sincere q's are always welcome, and nothing wrong with your strategy. If you can get Amsoil for under 30 bucks, I say it would be the best choice. As a second, m1 you can get 4 bucks plus per quart costco deal. I would pair that with a Fram Ultra filter, I think that is very important as well. Pretty much any group 3 oil will give you similar results, just make sure you are getting some moly.

I dont think your hemi takes 5 quarts.

Nothing wrong with sticking with 5w20 as long as it's a high quality oil which Amsoil is. Amsoil, M1, PP, PUP, QSUD and even PYB will all serve you well.

Yup, just gather info and make an informed choice. No reason to be defensive, we must have screwed the pooch when new guys come here and they feel defensive. Lets have a kinder gentler oil thread.

Sure thing. Same as posted in June.

Here's your numbers calculated from the uoas posted:

OCIs- 2100+5000+1500+6200+6074= 20,874mi / number of chgs=4,174.8 mi avg oci

TBNs- 5.6+4.1+6.1+3.3= 19.1 / number of TBNs=4.7

My numbers calculated:

OCIs- 8139+12207= 20,346mi / number of chgs= 10,173 mi avg oci

TBNs= 4.25+3.31= 7.56 / number of TBNs=3.78

The first on mine was ignored because it is the factory fill uoa. I'll be changing it again in a month or so. Current fill has around 10.5k on it. Truck has 33.5k-ish and hasn't seen a dealer yet.

I think we have given no reason to make people defensive what happens is we give our friendly advice and NEVER tell any one what to do. Just offer our opinions. Then...SOMBODY ruins it by arguing or stomping their feet about somthing making the newcomer defensive.

You can't see the # s as the red writing is over the first one , I'll post another that's more clear , the first one is 8,074 miles , and the third one at 1,500 miles is the same oil at the fourth one at 5,000 miles ( I was just curious [emoji848])
and the last oci was pup at 2,100 miles which I drained early on purpose , so as far as I'm concerned the 1,500 mile one & 2,100 mile one doesn't really count .

So your actually boosting my TBNs a bit as I only have 3ea real uoas on that sheet.

#1 is 8,074 miles /TBN =3.3

# 2 is 6,200 miles /TBN= unk , but based on the others let's say it's 3.9

#3 is 5,000 miles /TBN =4.1

So my average oci is 6,424 miles
And my average TBN is 3.76 ish

I do change my oil at shorter intervals , that's just what I do , I know I can go longer I just like to change it twice a year ...

Here's a better pic of the UOAsa3d87f7313ac81b00b2dc55a0408e7e8.jpg
