2012 1500 4x4, 180 thermostat, s&b cai, oil catch can, hemifever tune. Recently I have noticed that while having a slight load, normally ascending a grade, a very slight grade will cause it, at the right load the truck surges and the rpms jump and fall about 2 to 300 rpm. This happens at about 1100 rpm when just ever so slightly pressing the accelorator. Almost like it wants to down shift but it doesn't. Hard to describe but almost like a vroom...vroom....vroom type deal. It will happen for several seconds and finally shift or I have to take my foot off of it and then give it some to force it to shift. Not saying this is the cause, but after the last update from Sean this started happening. Are the transmission shift points tuned as well? I have yet to data log it and send it to him. Other than that it is about as smooth as it could be. Feels great otherwise. Ideas?

I would see if it does it with the stock tune in it. My last updated tune from my tuner I'm having sputtering issues in between shifts. Doesn't do it with the stock tune or a canned tune.

To directly answer your question - tune

I've experienced the exact same symptoms on my 2011 with HF tune. Attempts to resolve it have not worked.

I can guarantee you it's the tune and not the transmission.

The canned Diablo tunes and stock tune don't do it.

I went with another custom tuner and have no issues, truck runs hard and shifts great.

Hopefully the mods don't mind me mentioning. Jay Greene.

Having paid for both and had the opportunity to try both, I like the way my truck runs much better with Jays...from idle to wide open.

Plenty of people happy with HF though, but there have been a lot of similar threads about shifting issues lately.

Had a similar issue when I got my custom tune. The extra power from the tune made the MDS switching on/off feel like a surge. Disabled MDS and problem solved.

I had issues recently, fairly similar.

Talked to sean at HF and had him adjust the torque converter lockup rpms. (Widen the engagement points)

Seemed to help the driving issues I was having. My affected rpm was 1400-1800 ish.

My tuner is Jay also but he promised me it wasn't his tune. Long story short I'm running a canned tune and it sucks. My only other option is HF.

If it doesn't happen on stock then obviously its something in the tune if so I would set it to stock then do a new backup of the stock tune and send that to him.

make sure your tuner is updated first before you set it back to stock.

Think I've had this happen in 4th gear (3rd for 545RFE) a couple times since my truck was tuned. It has to be a very specific set of circumstances for it to do it so I thought it was just a fluke until I read through this. Currently runing a 3rd revision HF 93 tune.

Honestly my truck has been different overall since I did the initial calibration update when I first got my Trinity. Not sure if it's related...

You're going up a hill with a load at 1100 rpm, and you have no clue why your truck isn't happy? Really?

For pity sake, give that poor truck some rpm to work with. Up a hill with a load, and my truck would be turning at least 2200 rpm.

Gas is cheap right now. Burn some!

The problem isn't putting your foot on the skinny pedal...It's how the skinny pedal responds when putting said foot on it.
