Hey everyone...1st post but have been lurking/browsing for a while.
Looking at an 07 1500 slt megacab with 120k miles. Dealer is asking 16,000. My first thought is they're out of their minds, however, used truck prices in general (at least to me) seem to be outrageously high. I'd have sworn this would be close to a 10-12k truck by now.
What do you guys think? I saw a thread on here from someone looking at 2500 mega gasser with similar miles where the dealer was asking 17k...back in 2012!!
Do prices seem high to anyone else for @8-10 y/o trucks?
Don't do it. I just bought my 2012 Regular Cab Short Bed 1500 ST Express for $16,100 and it only has 32k miles on it. After my trade in (broken down 06 ram 1500 with 179k miles), $2500 cash down, and $1,000 employee discount, I ended up only owing $4k before taxes+title+tags.
When I bought mine, they had a few others I test drove. A White 2015 Quad Cab 1500 Express 6cyl with 31k for $21.9k (they most likely would come down to $18k- $19k) and I also test drove a Black 2015 Quad Cab Tradesman 1500 4x4 Hemi with Black Leather, OEM Projectors, Heated + Cooled Seats, 7" Premium EVIC, 20" chrome Wheels, OEM LED Tails, uConnect 5.0 (I think it was 5.0, it was the big one with Navi & Backup Cam In Tailgate Handle). It was a Hemi with the 8spd and 3.92 gears. The thing was fully loaded for $24.5k. They would not budge or come down on the price AT ALL so I passed on it even though it had everything I really wanted in a Ram, even the center console with the slap shifter thing..... I loved it, but A. It was too much (for me) and B. It wouldn't be ready for almost a week (still needed body shop to touch up chips, inspection for pre-certified status, full detail, etc) and I was in a situation where I had to buy something right then and there, as my truck had internal TIPM failures, a bad heater core and my trans was acting up. They still gave me $8.6k for my truck, with 179k miles and they obviously knew about its issues as they were the ones who diagnosed it.
Anyways, keep looking around. After i bought mine I saw a 2015 Blue R/T Sport on craigslist at a dealer for $25k with only 10,702 miles on it, mint condition. If only I had seen that, I would have actually not minded paying an extra $10k for an r/t.
What I'm trying to say is, don't get a 3rd gen (02-08) for $16k- $26k with 120k + miles when you can get a newer 4th gen (09+) with 15k-40k miles for the same price.
