Every time I go to start my truck and drop it in drive it takes forever to kick in but when it does it jerks forward hard and kills the truck. I read somewhere saying that it was u joints. So I replaced front and rear u joints on my truck. Still didn't fix the problem. I can't figure out what it is. I'm sure it has something to do with my truck running at high idle at start up. But still doesn't explain why it won't kick in when I put it in drive. To prevent it I start it and let it sit till the RPM's are about 500-600. I just wanna know what's making it stall and lag of gear change.

First question...any codes?

Sounds like there is a problem while it is open loop(warming up).
Do you have any problems any other time?
Check the fluid. Look for vacuum leaks.
You may have already done this, just throwing out suggestions.

It doesn't throw any codes. This is the only time I have a problem with the lag of gear change and stall. I'll check for vacuum lines later I haven't even thought about that.
