I've decided to convert my full length center console into a subwoofer enclosure. The end result is to have a factory looking center console with sub integrated into it. I purchased a spare console off ebay and have started gutting it. The intent is to mount a JL Audio 10TW3 inside of it. Here's where I'm at so far.

I'll update more as things progress but honestly, this could take a while as free time is not something I have a lot of.

Subd..... Looks like it's going to be sick! I'll slowly start building a box for under the rear seats of my CC... Like you free time is hard to come by! Lol

subd....interested to see how much airspace you end up with. I've wanted to do this but worry if their is enough space.

yes, airspace will be tight. The 10TW3 wants .6cuft and I think I'll be able to get that. Not really excited about the overall box shape I have to use to get there though. It will be bigger on both ends and thinner in the middle where it goes under the cup holders.

My intent is to have the sub forward facing at about a 45 degree angle that way it would have the free airspace under the dash for output.

Very cool! It appears there are two center-console-sub builds going on right now...

Folks that used to live next door had 2 sons..One of them rebuild an old 70's or 80's step side(single cab) pick up..Dont remember the brand..Anyways he installed a killer stereo system and what stuck out the most was the console sub..Damn thing was huge and would vibrate the floor of the house when he cranked it up in the driveway..My stocker 8" aint cuttin it...I hate to break down and spend 2 thou for sub,box,amp,processor,install....

^^^ You can always go previously owned and don't always need brand names of everything. :)

Love me some center console builds! I would personally fire the sub down for sub loading purposes, especially since it's a single 10. Regardless, very cool build!

Here are a couple of shots of the MDF portion going together.

Fiberglass is done. I ended up with about .83 cubic foot of airspace. I used packing peanuts and filled the box, dumped them into a cardboard box and measures it out. I know it's not the most scientific way but it's close enough for what I wanted. My sub requires about .6 so with sub displacement of the 10" shallow mount I think I'm right where I need to be! At least close enough for my needs I believe.

If someone wants to go down this path with a larger sub you could get more airspace out of the box by eliminating the under armrest storage area completely, that will pick up a 12x14x3 inch space. You could also get more space from under the cup holder and cubby hole area by eliminating that but would have to fabricate some sort of cover or modify the cupholder assy in some way to cover it all up. One idea I had was to use a clear plexiglass window in the cupholder assy so you could see the back side of the down firing sub. I'm not going for a show quality build so decided against that and went with a completely hidden sub.

Man! When I said this would be slow going I NEVER thought it would be this slow. However, I installed the console this past weekend and am completely satisfied with it! Here are a few more pictures showing the wiring harness installed on the new console as well as the sub installed. Also, a picture of the console in the truck with the cup holder assy removed. With the cup holder assy in place the only thing that is not stock looking is the arm rest compartment. Exactly what I wanted.
