Picked up a 2nd gen this weekend for $500. It's a little rough but I needed a new project. It has a blown head gasket as far as I know that's all that was wrong. But since I can't be sure the engine is coming out and will be rebuilt along with the transmission. I'm new to 2nd gens and have had a 4th gen for a while now. Any advice is always helpful, just remember I only paid $500 for it.

Either headgasket or cracked head. I'd lean more toward cracked heads since the gaskets really rarely blow on Magnums.

Looks like it's a good start though. :D

By 5.9 I thought you meant a 12 valve at first and I almost crapped myself when I saw $500 lol.

Any reasonable places to get heads? I'm rebuilding it stock or as close to it without needing to tune it.

I wish.. but I'm still not complaining.

I wouldn't complain neither. I had the opportunity at a 2000 5.9 gasser plow truck a month ago for $2k. A little rust but it would've paid for itself in 1 season. Should've bought it
