Hi, new to the forum. Just bought a 2000 ram 1500 5.9L auto 4x4 last night. Extended cab short bed. How would I check the trans fluid? Thanks.

With the engine running after a drive, as the trans needs to be at operating temperature. Chock a wheel on both the front and back. Cycle through the gears letting it engage in each one. Then put it in neutral and check the fluid level.

If you have added fluid, wait about 5 minutes for the fluid to drain down the tube or the reading will be inaccurate.

Nope, the idea is just to get fluid moving around the transmission in the case that it drained from one area.
