Just bought a 2nd gen. Need help!

I just bought a 1999 ram 1500 from work. It's a 2wd ext cab. My question is the 4x4 light comes on dash but it's a 2wd...and I'm positive it's not a 4x4 lol. Any thoughts on what may be goin on? Thanks

Short in the wiring... Check for a short to grey wire... Under the hood it could be black/grey...

Maybe it wants to be upgrade to a 4x4?

Are you sure that someone plugged in a light from some other place. Are you missing a light close by?

Does it come on when you start the truck and stay on or does it turn off after a few seconds?

It stays on all the time. It might be plugged into the wrong spot in the dash that's a good possibility. My work bought it new so there is no telling who worked on it or what has been done over the years. I know the transmission was replaced not long ago. I got it for pretty much nothin so I figure it's worth fiddlin with to use as a work truck.

Hmmmm that is interesting. IIRC on the cluster there isn't a way to cross bulbs. The bulbs are part of the cluster board. So unless there is a wire crossed prior to the cluster I don't think it will be a missplaced bulb. But I could be incorrect. Not sure how the older clusters are. But that is an interesting problem. Didn't know they even had the wiring for that system in a 2wd.
