Been putting copper anti-seize on plugs for as long as I can remember. A little bit goes a long way. Hand tight plus a 1/2 turn. Never an issue and they come right out when it's time to change them.

For the guys that want to know the torque specs they are at 13 ft pounds as to what I read. I just hit 30k in my 2012 and I am getting ready to do mine soon.

So I take it they changed mid model year in 2013. Can I tell by my build date if i have 30k or 100k plugs?

For a couple of hundred dollars I would rather just have the dealer replace the plugs or any other job for that matter.

Its a lefty loosy, righty tighty job. Why pay someone money for a job like that? Rebuilding a tranny, maybe. Turning a socket left and right, nope. And im rich.

My plugs are side-by-side. No top/bottom orientation. At least on my engine.

Mine for the intake stroke are where standard plugs are then the exhaust plugs are near the manifold on mine. I was going todo copper this next oil change, but yall have me worried that the exhaust plugs are copper aswell

Very interested in this.... I have a 2013 too and have 33K on the clock... Would like to know how to tell if I need to change the plugs OR if mine has the 100K plugs in there... Truck runs fine, I get good mileage so I really didn't think about it until I read this thread....

Someone chime in... The inquiring minds wanna know! LoL

I will say this, it is not a hard job but it's a pain in the ass trying to figure out what extensions, ratchet size to use and then trying to get enough room to actually move the ratchet.

Then climbing on top of your motor is not exactly comfortable. lol

On the 4.7 13, isnt the lower set of plugs iridium?

I had the same engine in a 2010 Dakota that I traded in. The bottoms were iridium and the tops were copper. Some 2008+ Dakota owners with the newer engine claimed to have had platinum plugs in the bottom/exhaust plugs. However, there were always copper in the tops.

Regardless of the metal for the 4.7, the exhaust stroke plugs are 100k? correct?

Yes, they were.

As people have stated before, plugs left in for a long time can pull threads out. Are the exhaust threads know todo that? Also is it possible to Pen lube before pulling out never done that before.

There weren't nearly as many 2008-2011 Dakotas sold (2011 was the last model year for them) as there were 2005-2007 Dakotas sold, so that may be why, but I have never heard or read of a Dakota with 100k platinum/iridium plugs having issues.

However, there are exceptions to every rule. Personally, I will not be waiting 100k to change plugs in either my wife's 2014 Jeep GC with the Hemi, or my Ram. Call me paranoid, but I'll spend a little extra money to be on the safe side with our expensive vehicles.

When I bought my truck I pulled one plug out, and it looked very good so I put one new one in and left them...I figured they were done at 30 but now I'm starting to think there original, so my next oil change in 900 miles, going todo the entire top set, then when I do plugs again which will be at roughly 75-85 I, going to do all 16
