Any idea where to start? A Google search revealed that the housing for the light switch overheats, and to replace. But is that a fix, or another future repair to some bad engineering? Any help on where to start would be appreciated.

Most of the time its the lighting switch, replacement is easy, just pop the decorative cover off the dash and unbolt the switch. If memory serves from when I replaced mine, its three bolts and two connectors on back. Total time of repair, 10 minutes.

The lighting relay? Idk what it's called but there's a switch behind the knob that overheats depending on how much current flows through it ( if you have strong after market headlights ) it causes that box to melt I had to replace mine a week ago.
