@ Danny , I doubt you have all the other required equip .

I'd purchase the whole kit and install like the instructions. That's me , but like I said I don't have a lot of knowledge on the 2500s

i have 8 wires running from the back of the truck to the front, coming out of the tailgate harness (from what ive read most only have 2). i have the wires in the pins at the connector behind the left front wheel (from post #250). that leads me to believe that my chassis harness is already wired for the backup camera, unless im missing something there. the only wires that im not finding are the 3 behind the radio, which from the camera instructions would go the the PDC and BCM?

what i believe to have found is that i have the wires behind the front tire, i also think i have the wires near the brake pedal (considering i am looking at the correct connector), but i seem to be missing the 3 wires behind the radio. i took some pics hopefully this helps.

Connector near brake pedal (this is to the right of the parking brake, im not 100% sure if this is the correct location)

Behing the radio (missing the 3 wires)

im not exactly sure what i need to do to install the OEM camera at this point. Any help is appreciated.

Danny,
Well your are right on top of this. You definitely have the 5-6 wires going from the c322 Cab connector (wheel well) back to the the i550 tailgate connector (Power & video).

You do not have the 3 wires to carry the video signal from inside the cab to the back of the radio. However, it DOES NOT seem like you have located the correct i315 (White) connector near the brake pedal. I would take a picture but I just dropped the truck off at the body shop for repairs.
Post back a picture or take a look at JeepGuy's original install directions as a reference (See below).
(EDIT: Pulled a picture out of JeepGuy's instructions)

With the original JeepGuy1980 schematic, it would be very easy to make the missing 70 inch section as long as you can get the 3 Sockets for each end of the wire to crimp on. Perhaps CuylerTech or someone can make one up. See below.

Final thoughts (after verifying the correct i315 connector).
Buy the full OEM kit. Get the missing 70 inch harness made and install it (If you can't do it or can't get someone else to do it, let me know and I may be able to work something out for you time permitting). Use the Oem kit parts for inside the tailgate (it will cost about the same as buying the ones you'd need individually) and if it doesn't work out, you can still do the full install with the rest of the oem kit harness.

Off to bed...

i had a feeling i was looking at the wrong connector. ill take another look tonight and grab another pic. your final thoughts are basically what i was thinking needed to be done, only i wasnt sure where the three wires behind the radio went.

i appreciate all the help fellas.

so i took a peak under my dash and it appears that my truck does not have the i315 connector, unless im missing something. i dont know if this is something different on 2500's or something changed in 2015. i have a black connector where the i315 should be according to the picture posted above.

I was really interested in installing a oem camera, but after reading the first 3 pages, skipped a few and read the last page, I decided to buy me a wireless back up camera for $150 and done. just need it for the camper hook up anyway. :)
Everyone has diff needs and wants hope you're happy with your wireless trailer hook up !

If anyone just wants the OEM backup cam with active gridlines that is as reliable as your truck starting when you turn the key ....then just simply install the OEM add on kit , it's simple and works flawlessly with the RA2 5.0 - RA3 8.4 & RA4 8.4 Radios.
Simple install a 3.5 out of 10 difficulty imo .
It works just like a factory installed backup cam .

You DO NOT NEED TO READ THE 700+ POST HERE , if you want a back up cam like a factory installed kit , just purchase it and post up any Qs you have here .

Danny,

Cptwing's 2500 had all of the factory chassis wiring for the camera.

Perhaps he is watching and can take a look at what connectors are under the brake pedal of his truck. Maybe he can identify where the other end of the 3 radio wires go.

Can you disconnect that black connector you originally thought was the i315 and post pictures of the front and back of each half? (Disconnect battery first)

It's possible that the connector is simply a different color, but I'm not sure.

I really appreciate all the helpful posts here including step-by-step and photos. I have a 2014 1500 Tradesman and unfortunately had to use every part in the kits to get mine working. In the meantime, while I was waiting for my camera kit to arrive, I upgraded the radio to an Alpine X009-RAM navigation radio. I was disappointed to find out that the lines don't move with the steering wheel like they do with the OEM radio. You would think when paying $3000 for a radio that they could keep that feature. They seem to keep so many others, that one seems easy. Disaapointed but the camera has such a wide angle its not that bad. I just wish the lines moved.

Just to confirm,

You had an Ra2 previously and installed the backup camera. At that point the camera guide lines worked and turned with the wheel on the RA2 display?

Then you upgraded to the Alpine X009 radio and now the lines no longer turn?

Edit: never mind. You added the Alpine first.

Did you have to have the XAC sales code flashed by the dealer?
Did you connect the BCM wire at pin 45 (Lin Bus CBC3)?

I have a 2015 Ram 2500 Tradesman and after looking at this entire thread and all of the existing harnesses, it appears I have everything I need except P68096415AC. Anyone know where I can buy it?

I already have the handle, camera, and Tailgate Wire Harness P/N P68189124AB, but like cptwing I have P68224929AA instead of P68096415AC.

so you have the 3 wires behind the radio as well? i would be very curious to know what the connector near your parking brake pedal looks like.

So I just installed (almost) Mopar #82214240...OEM backup camera. When it came time to tie in to the back of the radio, the wires are too short (limited by where the purple wire comes out of the harness and ties into the BCM. Also, the directions have me populate the wires into the black plug that came taped to the harness. Then the directions say three of those wires (GRY/BLU, GRY/ONG, and BARE) need to go into spots 31, 32, and 33 of the radio harness. Aside from being too short, they also have metal ends which are far too big to fit into the radio harness. It's a 2016 Tradesman 2500. Any ideas? My thought was too extend and solder in the three wires I need, but I thought I'd ask for some opinions first. Thanks.

Please, please take a look at the links in post 10.
There are actual pictures of the pins and connectors you are talking about referenced there ( ie links for post 26 and 180 I think).

This is a common place people screw up. (No offense meant to Major Shart)

I should note, I couldn't "depopulate" pin 31,32 and 33 so I cut the wires and spliced into them. I read before that those three wires are for the cargo camera if so equipped. Can I get a conformation on this?
I'm so irritated at myself for screwing this up :flame:. I did remove the red front "cover" but still couldn't get the wires to release. I didn't notice a slider but that would make much better sense. I'm irritated because the three wires I cut "depopulated" weren't supposed to be cut since I was in the wrong place. So I don't know what they were for but I'll reconnect them soon. The spot I should have used for the three wires for the camera was NOT populated so it would have been a breeze to finish this install properly. So...the three wires I thought were for the cargo camera were not for that, and the biggest issue is finding the metal pieces to go on the end of the wires, I had cut mine off to splice into the wrong three wires since I couldn't get them out. I'm just starting to look for them now. Just not sure what to call them. Do you know where I can order those?

You must have a long bed or crew cab ? My body harness was about 18" too long , I have a QC 6.4' bed . If the purple wire is keeping you from reaching the radio , just extend it & maybe rout the harness a bit different to gain some length .

. FYI .The purple wire is for the active grid lines only .

Also if you need extra wire or sockets , the connector you populate beneath the.dash to the radio harness has extra stuff in it ! Only the 3 wires going to the radio are used .
Hope this helps !

It does, except it has what appears to be the 3 wires going to the radio.
Interesting
^^^^
Exactly....

@sritter
Does that bare metal shield wire ohm out to the bare/camera shield wire at the radio with a meter ? ( pin 33)

Well it WAS midnight when I ran into issues. Turns out I had left the radio harness in the box. All hooked up and works great. Thank you. Also had you not mentioned post #26 I would have depopulated the wrong wires.
