I wouldn't try to gouge the guy buying the truck back. But nail the insurance co. Your pay out will change the buy back so don't commit to anything yet. When I was doing body work and found a vehicle I wanted to buy I would offer the owner a few hundred over the buy back amount. They got a few extra $$$ for helping me acquire the vehicle and in the end I gots me a fun project. So once you find out what buy back is, I would say $500 over for your troubles. Don't get too greedy here, you both win in the end.

As for the upgrades... well if you are selling it to the shop owner, let him have it as is. Removing critical components will only cost him more to fix and possibly deture him from buying it from you... if it is going to the wrecking yard... grab the PCM and if you can the lift components. Just make sure you can first. If they pay you for the lift parts you may not be allowed to remove them... I doubt they would notice the pcm being gone.

Thanks for the input. Basically if I end up getting reimbursed for the aftermarket parts I could take off, I'll just have him throw in a little extra. If not, we will work something out that's a fair number for both of us.

Thanks for asking.
First offer was at around $39,000. Clearly did not accept that. I️ lectured the adjustor and then I got a second offer at $52,000 which I️ ended up taking.

Have not gotten a new truck yet. Planning on waiting to see what the 2019 vehicles have in store!

From what I've seen of the 2019 through leaks nothing much worthwhile. I'd buy a rebel but I I'm sure you'll find it something that that makes you happy before long

That's so messed up that they would make your first offer 13000 less than the second offer. Just goes to show, how shady insurance companies can be.

12" uconnect, panoramic sunroof and self driving features - enough for me if I was in his shoes.

Good point. Things often are released mid-year. You're lucky she came up to $52k in the next phone call. I had a situation that took multiple calls and 'lectures' as you say.

So, just to review, what this 'your' insurance company that is paying? Also did you have 'replacement' coverage ..or they're offering it? Do they just cut you a check, or do you find something and they pay the dealer? I've been fortunate enough not to have to have to need 'replacement' coverage. Just small things so far.

Oh, trust me - it took more than one phone call. Possibly 20-25 emails, just as many phone calls (she couldn’t pick up when I️ called either so I️ couldn’t get ahold of her). Ended up with me talking to the supervisor the get it sorted out. It was a disaster and had me boiling.

So what happened was I️ got the number from the other insurance company (who I️ ended up going through because they would cover customization and that also allowed me to not have to pay the $500 deduction fee), then they paid the lean holder for what I️ had left to pay of the vehicle since I️ financed it. And then, the total amount minus what I️ owed the “bank” was what got put into my account. Pretty involving process but god am I️ ever happy it’s over.

One more thing, yes my insurance wouldn’t cover customizations simply because I️ hadn’t informed them about it. Turns out if I️ had told them about all the stuff they would cover it. Farmer’s Insurance. Won’t be using that again.

Cheers

Good tip!

Guys might want to leave the "Pedal Commander" off their list of 'mods'. I could see a claim being denied because of that.
