Hey guys, still in the middle of my header install... It's been a huge pita and I would have definitely paid to have it done in hindsight. Had to cut my catback to get the old y-pipe off :(.

I got new OEM gaskets, but after comparing them to the JBA gaskets, I started to put the JBA gaskets on since the OEM gaskets seemed to slightly block the primaries. I've got the passenger side on, but the gasket looks like it's got some gaps. I'd rather not take it off and put the OEM gaskets on since it was a huge pita. All bolts are hand tight. Check out the pic, am I crazy or is something not quite right?IMG_20171216_171226.jpg IMG_20171216_171215.jpg

When you tighten them it should close those gaps, I would go ahead and torque them down and check for more gaps

Should have used the oem gaskets man. Everyone on here with headers will tell you that.

It may be that since the exhaust ports are raised that having part of the gasket compressed could push the part that is not compressed away from the flange. I used the jba gaskets with no issues

I know, I know... But the gasket seemed like it blocked a bit of the exhaust discharge... This is my most frustrating experience on a vehicle ever. It's not my first header install and I've done numerous tranny swaps that we're a cake walk comparatively. I'm probably about 12 hours in... Had to cut my catback, stripped an O2 sensor, a stage 8 bolt disappeared somehow between the header and floor, can't get the lower dipstick bolt lose, and now the gasket. About ready to run the damn thing without exhaust lol

Remflex makes good manifold gaskets

That's odd as hell with the bolts tightened down. That seems to be a pretty good size gap from what I can see in the pictures. I don't have JBA's but mine did not have any gaps after tightening the bolts down. When I tightened them down it pulled everything flush. By the way "the passenger side is the easy one" lol.

That's why I started there lol. I think I'm going to have to roll the dice. I finally got the dipstick bolt lose, but can't get it out all the way. Jacking up the engine and removing the motor mount isn't feasible due to the truck being lifted... I barely got it on jack stands. Consequently I cut the lower bracket and ended up cutting into the dipstick tube slightly... Looks like I'll be calling Loki on Monday... It's going to be a long week.

Also worth noting, I scrpaped the area prior to ensure carbon deposits didn't affect the seal

I feel ya man, by no means are these things an easy install. Like you I keep running into one problem after another. Then when I finally did get them on, I had to re route two of my brake lines because the headers were to close and burnt through them. If I had to do it over again there would be no way in hell it would be me doing it. I was lucky on a few things though, I had just enough room to get the bolt out of the dip stick bracket and my truck was only a couple months old, so every thing came off pretty easy. Once I got them on and every thing sorted out it was worth it though.

Hopefully you will get the rest of it done with no problems "good luck".

I have a custom length Lokar dipstick. I had them make me one 29" long with the hemi car ends,so probably in the neighbourhood of 31/32" long overall length. If you end up dealing with their custom end of things, tell them it's for a car with a custom built turbo set-up,if you tell them it's for a truck, there's a good chance they'll tell you they don't make one.

Thanks man, how long did it take them to custom make your piece? I'm going to call them Monday, but need it here by the end of the week. If that's a no go, I'll have to go to the parts department at my local dealer ship for an oem tube, if they don't have one, I'll be JB welding the hole in the existing one and trying to mangle it back to a reasonable shape.

Looks like you need to check header flange with a straight edge.
They may have warped in welding process or forgot to machine after welding.

I think like another member stated in a previous post, that it may not be an issue since the flanges are raised. At this point, I'm going to roll the dice and if it leaks, I'll have a shop install the OEM gaskets... I'm over it. The stage 8 retainers are going on and I'm working on the y pipe to catback connection on the passenger side today. Driver side will have to wait until I get the dipstick issue figured out.

I had it in about a week from when I phoned them and ordered it,and that included it being shipped to western Canada. If you're stateside it shouldn't take all that long, but you definitely picked the wrong time of the year, with it being the Christmas rush season, lol.Apparently they have a 27" long version now,but when I ordered mine a couple years ago, they only had the little short version for the cars. Get ahold of Kurtis Holland aka Charonblk he has one of their shorter 27" long dipsticks on his truck, and I think he can give you a part number for it.His only reaches to the coil packs, while mine reaches right to where the stock dipstick tube reaches. His is definitely usable, just not quite as user friendly as mine is though.Might be easier to track Kurtis down over on Nadodge on facebook.
If you're running the Stage 8 bolts,i wouldn't worry about putting the locking tabs or clips on them, they've been known to rattle and cause your knock sensors to pull timing on you, plus they're a royal ***** to install on the bottom side bolts.

Thanks for the info, I don't do social media so I wouldn't know how to track him down. I'm in the central Midwest, so hopefully I can get it quick with expedited shipping if they're not backlogged with custom orders. How did you route the tube to ensure it didn't touch the headers?

I'll skip the retainers based on your comment, anything I can do to speed up the process at this point is good with me lol.

Another quick question for anyone that can answer. I've got the catless JBA's so I'll need to turn O2 sensors off. Does that shut off all the sensors or just upstream or downstream. Only received to extensions and I'm not sure if they need to be used for upstream or downstream, or if I can leave some unplugged.

My saga continues...

Can't get the JBA y pipe to connect to the catback... 3 inch id for the JBA and 3 inch od for the catback pipe... Screw it, not fighting it, already mangled it, I'll just hit up the muffler shop one I'm done...

Next issue... Checked fitment for driver's side header. Looks like it's rubbing up against the bracket and parking brake cable. I think others had this issue on the original JBA's and moes supposedly carries the new version that doesn't have this issue. Asked the fiance if she ordered my Xmas present from moes... Nope, some other site that was $30 cheaper... Probably getting rid of the old stock. Doh! Looks like the sawzall is going to get some more use... I'm beginning to think that I'm being punked or something.
