Hey guys, I realize there’s probably a ton of these threads on here asking about this but, I figured a more up-to-date thread would be in order but, what’s a good, direct-fit, bolt-on muffler that’s not too absurdly loud? I’m not an old man, but I’m definitely not a kid anymore, if ya know what I mean...[emoji16]

Considering that since it probably wouldn’t be too terribly hard to eventually get used to pushing the gear button my steering wheel to keep the MDS off but, what if I was to not wanna shut the MDS off, and still get some decent sound without that, “whip-whip-whip-whip” helicopter sound when it kicked in?

I guess more or less what I’m looking for in this new muffler is maybe just a little bit more sound over stock. MDS or not, I really don’t want any drone(especially), and I really don’t want a whole lot of noise in the cab. I mean, a little is fine like when I get on it and want it loud but, for the most part, fairly tame. Lol.

Main thing is just no drone. Second would be not too terribly obnoxious. Third, has to be a bolt-on replacement like this Carven Progessive muffler.

Does anything like that exist?

All mufflers I've seen that get a bit louder, outside the Carven units, are usually smaller in diameter and shorter.

Good luck with your search. Let us know what you find.

im kinda in the same spot. wife and kids so drone has to be kept at bay. mufflex/b2fab has bolt in magnaflows 14/18/22 length with 14 being loudest and mixed drone reviews. 18 good mix but some still report drone. 22 not much different from stock from what i have heard and read. im looking into making my own borla bolt in as the outlets are 5in on center like oem but cant confirm if the 3in front pipe will need a offset or not.

carven would probably be to loud and wake neighbors/kids at 630 when i leave for work

great idea to get an updated thread

I haven't upgraded my mufflers in years so I can only tell you about the ones I have read about on the forum. Magna flow, carvan, borla and the one I would get, Corsa. Maybe some one who has added larger tips can tell us both if that changes the sound.

Um, what do you mean?

I’d actually like to try that Carven Progressive that I linked to but I’m afraid that’s just gonna be a little bit too loud for what I’m looking for.

I don’t know if anybody’s familiar with the sound of the ole, Flowmaster knock-off Thrush muffler like what they have in most exhaust shops but, that’s what I had on my old Hemi, and it was a bit too much. I have no idea how it sounded with the MDS as since you didn’t need a new computer +tuner to disable the MDS on that ole Gen-3 I had, I never heard what it sounded like but nonetheless, it was still a little bit too much. Sounded good, but a little too much on the loud side.

Do any of those make a direct-fit bolt muffler like that Carven one I linked, or even that outlaw Flowmaster one I found?

How come you would choose Corsa over those other three you mentioned?

As far as upgrading my tips, I do find those polished, Carven 5 inch upgrades to very, very sexy but changing tips isn’t a top priority. If I changed the tips, it would clearly only be for looks, than anything.

I have heard Corsa on a ram sport and liked the sound. Also liked the streight through design . The cat back system is a bit pricey and haven't checked if you can only buy the muffler.

Yeah, that’s why I’m just looking into options for a direct-fit muffler because I already have a dual cat-back design on there from the factory. Don’t see any need in pulling all that off just to replace it with something else that’s virtually the same as what Ram put on there.

Hmm well, I guess Corsa’s out I guess since I don’t want to replace everything back there. Hell, if I decided to go with kit by Carven with the muffler and the tips, that’s 4, 500 bucks right there... lol.

There is a vender, Nickgotexhaust, on the forum. Guys on the oil thread use him to get oil. Seems to have good pricing and can answer any of your questions. Could shoot him a pm and see what he recommends.

Yeah, I might do that. He’s the one I got my pedal commander from.

Mufflex, Solo Performance, Flowmaster, Flopro, Boeschbuilt, Carven, Walker... all offer direct fit mufflers for Our Rams!... I have the Carven Progressive. I LOVE it, but it is a bit loud. I might suggest the Mufflex 18" Magnaflow for Your needs...

That Carven Progressive is supposed to be the quieter one they sell, ain’t it? If that one’s a bit loud, I can only imagine how much louder that little folders coffee can muffler one by Carven is...lol.

Im assuming this- https://www.mufflex-performance.com...18/78-dual-exhaust-for-ram-1500-moderate.html is the Mufflex one you were suggesting?

The Carven mufflers have a good sound, but are too loud for my liking. The Mufflex kits us the Magnaflow mufflers which have more of a deeper and smoother tone. For everyday driving, I like the 18 Mufflex kit. It is comfortable while cruising, but you know its there when you get in the throttle.

The Borla ProXS is another great option, but Borla does not offer it as a muffler swap unless you get their full catback system.

I’ve heard that quite a bit.

How does it sound when the MDS kicks on?

Yeah, that’s just unfortunately a little more than what I wanna spend considering I already have the same kinda kit that was put on there from the factory...[emoji41]

Love my Carven Progressive. Sometimes wish it was louder. But I came from a Scat Pack with welded in Dynomax Race Bullits. I don’t notice drone that bad with it either.
