*** shifter dial thing really spoiled the fun.. i find myself just putting it in D and driving, hate the manual mode steering wheel buttons..

It’s a truck, not a sports car. Lol. But when I need it, I don’t mind the manual buttons for using lower gears for downgrades. Plus, those manual buttons make it very easy to disable the MDS.

2. I hate this one the most... it was recalled recently and they "fixed" it to where if your door is open at all, you can't back up or go forward. You have to shut the door and put it back in Park before moving again. WHAT the HECK??? There are lots of times backing up like camping etc where I want to open the door to see how close I am to the curb or rocks etc. The engineer that came up with that "fix" should be FIRED!!!
Go-to: https://www.seatbeltextenderpros.com/ram-pickup-seat-belt-extender/
Buy a 3" seatbelt extender and leave it plugged into the truck, you can back up all day long with the door open without the seatbelt holding you in place.
Don't fall out and send pics when you rip your door off...lol

Very disappointed that my heated steering wheel stopped working in my 2017 RAM after 52,000km and 38 months of use.

$1,200.00 to repair two months after warranty expired.

I'll never buy another RAM nor any other Chrysler product.

That sucks man. A little good will would have gone a long way by FCA on that one.

Other than just getting used to it, about the only time I find it actually deficient is when I'm holding say, a sandwich, in my right hand and need to shift from P-R, D-R, etc.

Well thankfully you don't have to use them.

Unfortunately, they are not "manual mode...buttons". They are "gear [upper] limit" buttons.

BTW, I did find on the 4th gen that the button layout was not very intuitive/easy to use without looking. The 5th gen is MUCH better.

Sorry to hear that bud but do you really think any other brand would reach down their own throat and spot you the 1200 bucks to fix that when they mean what they mean when they say that your manufacturer warranty is only good for 3 years or 36,000 miles?

You’re gonna get that anywhere you go so good luck.

I sincerely apologize for the frustration, @Northern NB. We kindly recommend following up with our Canadian Customer Care team for further support. NOTHING, I’ve owned my 2009 Ram 1500 since new, had some recall issues addressed by the dealership, they noticed broken manifold bolts and fixed them without asking me too. Granted I only have 77000 miles on her so maybe that’s why nothing major has needed fixing yet, with the Mopar Lifetime Powertrain Warranty in effect, I’ll never sell her while I’m alive, I can’t think of anything on this truck that I would change.

My only real pet peeve is the shift knob/dial. I much prefer a lever. Other than that I have no complaints except maybe the envy I'm forced to see in the faces of non Ram drivers. :):D

Nothing so far with my 5th gen except seems only one of the many cigarette/plug ports only one seems to get power with the key off and of course that’s the one that’s on top of the dash.

So in other words, you just can’t get used to it or train yourself to use it, yes? Since I took to mine so well and don’t currently recall any times where I’ve reached for any other knob instead of the shift knob, I can’t complain about it, nor can I even gripe about it because it’s never been a problem.

But, if there ever was a an actual problem, I’d rather blame myself or my girlfriend because when you have an aftermarket shift knob with a custom 3D decal on the face of it that kinda makes the knob all the sudden needing to stay in a certain position; because if you ever turn the truck off before shifting it into park, the electronic knob will auto-correct itself as it puts the truck in park for you and whenever you do that, you learn real quick why they didn’t use a knob that had to be situated a certain way because in order to re-right the knob, you gotta go through like 5 or 6 auto-correct cycles to get the knob spun all the way back around to where it’s supposed to be.

What all do you have in that truck that needs constant power to?

If I didn’t have a power tap cable that comes out of my rear view mirror to power my radar detector and had to plug it into a power port, I wouldn’t want that powered all the time. My phone- yes, if I left it in the truck to charge but some I have one of those high Mah portable batteries, there’s no need for that but they do make cigarette lighter chargers that have multiple usb outlets on them.

Just curious. lol.

Guess that knob’s just not for everybody but I gotta ask; why are you using the buttons to shift?? Is 8 forward gears that do what I would consider a pretty good job of keeping the Rpms in the power band not good enough for ya?...lol.
