Damn are we supposed to change the oil that soon?

I have always dumped the oil in my new vehicles within 1000 miles. Used to be 100 miles :) that comes from my Mopar engine building days in the 70s.

How come so soon? I looked through my manual to see what it said about the first initial oil change but it didn’t say anything about changing it early, it pretty much made it sound like when the oil life meter says to change it... or well, before 10,000 miles/one year, that’s when you change it.

You know something I don’t or is this just one of those things where there’s no apparent reason for changing the factory oil out that soon? Just curious because my brand new Ram is approaching 2 grand on the odometer and uh, I’m a little interested in your thoughts.

Nice. What did you use for the level. Might e an optical illusion, But the front looks like it might be higher than the rear now.
Slight illusion, it's pointed uphill. I used supreme suspension 2" level pucks. Ill be switching to BIL's in the spring. I'm not really comfortable having to rotate the struts 180. Not sure if they really seated properly in the towers.

First oil change at 1100 miles. Leveled it out a little, and washed a ton of salt off.

Before and after.

Probably just an OCD thing. I learned my engine building from my dad, and he was adamant about dumping 100 mile break-in oil. Now days I'm sure the machining filings are cleaned out a lot better now days, but old habits die hard.

Looks Kool. But I’m disappointed you took the pic while in Park. Where’s your dangerous side. All interior pics should be taken in drive while doing 45mph + if possible.

Lol I wish I would’ve thought about it and put it in drive with the brake on to raise some eyebrows.. guess that’s the father coming out in me.

Yeah see that’s what my thoughts were/are, was the assembly lube- if they even use that stuff anymore.

Well whether or not they put synthetic in at the factory, did you refill with synthetic? Which brand/weight did you use?

I used synthetic Pennzoil Ultra Plus 5-20w. still not sure about the 5-30w debate.

I had never run synthetic until my wifes 2010 charger and daughters 2013 Dart. Now all my new vehicles get it.

Yeah, I’m not at all that sure myself about that 5-20 vs. 5-30 debate, either. I’ve always just followed the recommendation of the manual and have yet to go wrong so, that’s what I’m going to continue to do.

What oil filter did you use?

Anyone ever mount a pistol holster in their trucks? When I go driving across country to see family I bring it with me but it just sits in the center console armrest. I would like to mount it somewhere just don’t know where a good place to mount it at. That holster will stay there permanently.

Be very careful. Every state has different rules. Some states your gun must be visible, some it must be in a locked box, some it can just be in the glovebox. Research EVERYState you will be in or you may be there a lot longer than you planned to be. Take it from a gun guy in NJ. Actually, don't come here. It gets way complicated here and NJ doesn't accept (respect) any other states concealed carry license. They don't play here, that's why I'm getting the Hell out.

Not 1st, 2nd or 3rd? No Trophy!

Yea I am aware of that. And I am damn sure not coming to NJ. Farthest I ever want to go is Maryland. Lol.

I just want to be able to have it next to me. And when we get to states I can always put it in my travel trailer. I will have my safe with me.

Maryland ain't much better. Even radar detectors are illegal there.

Never had one. I have a highly modified VW and use to drive kind of fast but never been pulled over. I am sure if I had one I would have gotten cocky and gotten lots of tickets. Lol
