Last Saturday I had the first oil change done on my 2017 Ram 1500. Changed from factory fill to Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 5W20 and a Wix XP filter. I have driven just a bit over 100 miles since the oil change. The MPG results have to be coincidence. Prior to oil change 15.6 MPG on average. After oil change 17.8. I am a creature of habit, so same routes, same speeds. These figures are directly from the computer. I did not hand calculate. No way this is for real. The truck now has just over 4200 miles on her.

I can't explain your sudden increase in mileage, however I don't trust those damn computers so I hand calculate my mileage. The computers seem to be a couple of mpg off from what lots of people experience---no first hand knowledge though.

Engines generally get better mileage when they get broken in, that may be part of the factor. And I bet when you hand calculate, it wont be near as good. Different blends also give better mileage, maybe your gas station switched from winter to summer gas last week. Winter gas is often 2mpg's less or worse. A lot of variables can be the cause. You would need to do some serious testing to convince the board that oil was the cause. However, it is a great hemi oil, the one oil Ram had an influence on making. And it is also possible, I think it was gears tv that replaced all their fluids and did gain mpg's.

It is normal for mileage to go up as the motor breaks in, but as was already stated using the computer to compare as opposed to hand calculations may not provide you with a true comparison.

Good oil selection. Doubt the new oil upped you mpg.

I don't trust the computer either, but it is good enough to show the increase. I generally get about .6 to .8 lower when I hand calculate. Not trying to convince anyone it was the oil, just thought it was something to share.

I agree that the engine is starting to break in. I do believe the oil could be a tiny bit of the cause, but definitely not that much. I don't have a clue about the fuel. I fill up at the same place with few exceptions. I do run Lucas Upper cylinder lubricant every other tank as well.

Did you use the same brand of gas? Even if you did they may not have as much ethanol in it as they normally do.

Did you by chance drive for a distance on the freeway? The lower average looks like city mileage and the jump can be caused by letting the truck strech out on the highway for a bit.

I noticed on my Truck in cool weather I get 14 mpg average, soon as warm temps outside, I get around 17 average.

I'm amazed that I can drive for hundreds of mostly city miles and the computer says 14.8, then after a relatively short time on a highway (say, 20 miles) it shoots up to 16.5. I know it's no revelation, but stop and go absolutely kills mpg.

Fuel economy generally improves as the drivetrain breaks in. If better oil or additives meant large fuel economy gains the manufacturer would use it to meet EPA mandates for fuel economy.

Stop and Go is where internal combustion engines are least efficient, and where electric motors are at their most efficient. A short drive on the highway allows the Ram to use cylinder deactivation and run on 4 cyl. getting mileage in the low 20s. This jumps my average suddenly.

Dodge gave you the happy feeling program. When you push your oil reset button the program adds 2MPG to make you feel better for a while. I hand calculate mine and It's always 1MPG lower than the computer says, whether on winter or summer tires. If I coast down all my hills from work to home, 20 mi, I can milk 24 MPG out of the computer. Then I really feel good!

Great oil selection and Great oil filter selection. That PUP has the best Thermal Stability out of any oil I've seen tested, a very low 2.7% drop in ware protection. Check out the link to learn more:
