I have not met a kirkland product I didnt like, especially the price and quality. Guess we disagree on that. Those interstate batteries never let me down either. Not sure what is better out there.

I'm paranoid, for demonstrable reasons. I don't dive into no-name stuff anymore unless I know sourcing.

Since batteries should last a long time if AGM, I pay the money for Odyssey. Odyssey also bought out X2. 100% USA made.

Not sure how East Penn AGM rates, brands are Duracell and Deka, 100% USA made.

Johnson Controls used to own the market, then spun off as a new company "Clarios" with new 'management', made in Mexico instead of Milwaukee, quality went downhill. What surprise. They make all sorts of name brands.

East Penn is legit'. We sold bushels of them, and the warranty rate was extremely low.

Johnson Controls has always been a lowest bidder crap operation.

Thank you for sharing background.

Any experience with Interstate's farm-out operation? Sounds worse to me than Johnson's move to Mexico because you don't know what you're getting from store-to-store and year-to-year across USA - just luck of the draw.

Also, I don't know what to think about Optima. Spiral-wound electrodes is a good space-saving design, but I've read inconsistent manufacture quality to consider them. If I did, it would be the yellow top dual purpose AGM design.

Since optima spent most of the last decade w/o an option for the hemi, i wrote them off anyhow.

One other thing about costco, there is no place on earth that has warranty service like costco. It is so good I have felt embarrassed bringing some of the stuff back that I have bought them. My wife never lets nothing ride, her favorite three words, bring it back. All a guy can do is sigh.

Excellent, simple oil video for laypeople.

The point of engine oil changes needs to be driven home that change interval is based on contamination load - NOT the quality of the oil. Amsoil et. al. are on the wrong track advertising 25,000 mile engine oil when oil has to be condemned for changout @ 5,000 miles due to soot, water, unburned gas, dirt past air filter, and so on.

ESPECIALLY for modern sensitive engines with insufficient oil supplies to certain areas (*ahem*) and tiny pilot valve orifices for hydraulic technogizmos like VVT and MDS.

And so - a good quality API Group III synthetic is all that is needed for adequate, low wear when changed every 5,000 miles. I use PUP myself, a Group III+ base oil, on all non-Hemi automotive gasoline engines.

*end rant*

Edit Add: unless you want to get UOA on a timely basis every 1,000 miles past 5,000 mile oil run time. This will tell when oil is saturated, with a lab with enough test info.
When I was with Mobil, I did this experiment using the Mobil lab, which had access to all their internal oil recipe contaminant limits. My engine was flagged with excess silicon (ingested dirt past the air filter) @ ~ 14,000 miles.

I used an all PAO (before Group IV was defined) Mobil engine oil to ensure max base oil life to take the oil type out of the condemnation criteria. This was also before engine hydrualic gizmo-itis that are sensitive to deposits. This ancient personal field test confirms what we know today - use a good quality Group III engine oil and a low restriction large oil filter every 5,000 miles. 10,000 miles is absolute upper limit.

God, I hate returns. Standing in line behind hoards of people arguing over 50 cents. Or worse yet, shipping back boxes of stuff in the wrong size because the store no longer stocks.

Anyone do a UOA for Kirkland?

I wouldn't use in a Hemi w/o LubeGard, of course.

The only reason I use PUP in other engines is the detergency they once advertised for piston rings and lands. Otherwise, these are all Group III oils that will perform well with 5,000 OCI's.

Happy national battery day, like wth? I wonder when they will get around to naming a day for gasoline and all the greatness that comes from it. Then how about a national motor oil day? Think I am joking? National; petroleum day is aug 27, lmao?

what does this mean? Am I the RF antichrist to you?
Not at all. I have a granddaughter who is a Virgo that is as sweet as can be.

I get along great with Virgos. I just can't live with one...lol Leo and Virgo both have a fiery personality that doesn't mix well over the long term.
Both are too stubborn and opinionated. Or so I'm told. I don't see that in me...LOL (yeah, right)

I resemble your insult.

At least I've been to remedial charm school. As we said at work, "it didn't take again."

Going back to 2 smoke oil, how did opti-2 stack up? Been using it for a long time. Always add about 15cc extra to the gallon mix getting the ratio down to 30’s:1. No fouled plugs, equipment runs great.

Not sure I understand why you are adding 2 smoke oil to the gas.
Please explain.
